Just installed it and ran it a few times. Seems to be just fine. The 24 Bit Wave Driver works fine as well. Now if SoFo could only fix my Asio EZbus problem I'd be more than happy! Hopefully that hasn't been swept under the rug. I bitch about it enough that I doubt it has been forgotten!

Ok i had my shot at levity. Now for some real questions.

does this release fix play back problems such as:

there is an option on the Audio tab that when changed is supposed to move beatmapped and one shots into Ram and play from there instead of playing off the disk. (Open Files as Loops if between:) It doesnt seem to help the stuttering play back. I commonly use Beatmapped tracks for my vocals, and i have read a million messages (ok not a million but close) saying turn them into loops, unfortunately that doesnt seem to work either because of the time you have to spend getting the BPM correct as it was before.

Or do i have to wait for Version 4.0f for that?

My system has 1.5 gig of memory, dual processor AMD 1600 Palaminos, Stupid Audigy Platinum sound card (I so wish i bought a terratec) and hard drives using Ultra DMA controllers and they are 7200 Drives. I would think i wouldn't have a problem with play back. or should i move these beatmapped track off to the other hard drives in my system? who knows, just gets fruestrating to get your song set for mix and have to mute certain channels at a time to stop it from stuttering.

any help in this regard would be greatly appreciated

thanks

Who gives a rats what the list of fixes are, it's an update for heaven's sakes, download it and be extremely thankful; don't even think about it...

Stusy: most people would like to know if the update is actually going to be helpful and fix some problems they were having before taking the time (and possible risk) of downloading and installing a new version.

Some folks don't need or want the update.

I see I'm not the only one in the same boat....
welcome to my w... (click) w.. (click) o.. o.. r.. (pop) rr.. r.. (click) l.. ll.. ddd... ...world!
(1GB RAM, PIII-1000, 7200 RPM UDMA.. etc etc... more than enough to run audio apps, but introduce a few one shot vocal tracks, and the stuttering begins... very annoying. Impossible to mix without muting out important stuff)

be Nice if they either gave you an option to route all tracks to RAM, or if that option in audio(mentions in above posting of the same User Name) actually worked and routed everything to RAM. In this day and age of Computers when RAM is there and Power is there, it be nice for an OPTION to be there.....just a thought...just a thought

oh well (stutter Stutter..)back(Pop Pop) to (Crackle Crackle) my project (Stutter Stutter)

teknik, you could have a 3500mhz p4 and 10gb ram and 14000rpm hd and still have chuggy and bad performance if you dont maintain your computer properly. you guys should read some old post about tweaking (hopefully your not using win98 and you do understand that you need to defrag your drive). i reinstall my os every 6-8 months and do a complete driver update and magically all my troubles dissapear and life is great. it irks me when people blame there own lack of knowlege and subsequent problems on software (and in this case the actuall people that work all day making the program that you cant figure out how to get runing properly). back in the day we would spend days trying to get a software running right. your too spoiled. if it dont work, fix it. quit crying and blaming. better yet, buy a 4track and sell your computer.

ok im mean and nasty. but damn, people want everthing to do all the work for them so they dont have to learn anything.

I..(Crackle)..would....(pop Pop) write (snap snap)...but..(clip clip)....my...(plop plop) hard drive....(crinkle crinkle)...is...(pop pop) not....(snip snap) defragged.....NOT!!!!

I read all the other posts, went to the sites mentioned, did all the tweaks....and ya know what....it just didnt do it.......shoot me now!! seeing i have had a computer for 16 years, been programing for just as many, i am pretty sure your lecture isnt helping any one out. please get a punching bag or something for those of us that dont have your godly skills.

>>>Stupid Audigy Platinum sound card<<<

Now that is STUPID. Sorry but I have to scratch my head and wonder why you spent all that dough on a dual cpu computer with a boatload of ram.[what is your video card???newest drivers?] And your using a piece of sh!t audio card? You get what you pay for my friend.

My best advice to start with is:
1) Throw that piece of crap away and get yourself a echo soundcard. Gina/mia/layla. Best drivers for use with ALL audio apps. Too many bugs still with midiman.{Will try installing the acid fix drivers soon to see if I get better performance on my system.}I'm seriously considering selling my delta 1010 for a layla 24bit/96.[Anyone heard of a newer model being released soon?]
2)Check to make sure that after you installed it that it isn't sharing any IRQ's with anything.
3)Standard pc or not?
4)Sorry what os are you running?
5)What kind of mobo are you using? [via chipset? Have you flashed your bios with the 4 in 1 drivers?]
6)How many tweaks have you done?
7)Reinstalled your os recently?

Ed.

Hey, Ed, you got a link to info on this? This is one thing I know I have not done! Or is it just for the Audigy...I've got Echo Mia.

Sorry Diane for not getting back sooner...It really was "one of those days" today.

I'm not a pro at flashing a bios. Find out the maker and go to their site. They usually have pretty detailed instructions on how to do this.

Here are two links to add to everyones list:

The person who you should look for is Douglas Spotted Eagle.{aka:SPOT here on the sofo forums} He would be the guy to quiz about more info on your mobo updates. And why avoiding a mobo with a VIA chipset is a good thing. At least untill I here different.

This isn't about a soundcard but how your mobo runs. My brother couldn't use a certain video card untill he updated his bios that fixed whatever was wrong.

The biggest soundcard issues I've seen on the forums are people who have IRQ conflicts. ie: your souncard is on the same irq as your video/usb/etc...When you don't have your OS set to "standard PC" you'll definitely have this problem. Windows likes to group your hardware to irq 9 and IT will deligate resources as IT sees fit. Not good for A/V work. When your soundcard is on its own irq then it has all the bandwidth of said irq for itself...thats good.

HTH...

Ed.

again sorry for taking so long [yawn] ;)

Thanks, Ed. I'll do some looking into this for my mobo.

Re the Standard PC thing, after reading tons of stuff on the whole IRQ isolation issue, I decided not to do a Standard PC install with XP. (I mainly followed the advice at musicxp.net.) My Mia is on IRQ 10 with something called an SMBus something...and I'm thinking/hoping what that is is the controller for the internal serial modem, which I am not using. I disabled it, at any rate, and so it looks like I've got the Mia isolated now to IRQ 10. It was a PIB getting it that way, though--moving the card in the box is what I had to do. So far, knock on wood, it's working!

Looks like the CWD issue wasn't the the only 24 bit FIX in this release!

This update has fixed my M-Audio USB Quattro ASIO 24 bit audio issue as well!

I couldn't believe it when I saw no error messages when setting up a project for asio 24 bit. Opened the record window, and still no warnings or error messages, and the LED indicators showed NO activity at all(this would be a good thing). Tickled the ivory(ok...plastic) on my synth kybd and the LED's came to life. Started recording, and it worked; 24 bit ASIO now works with the Quattro!

Thanks Gals & Guys @ Sonic Foundry! Looking fwd to Acid Pro 5!

Even with my "stinky" VIA chipset, ALL systems operating normally: )

This rules!
