Subject:Newbie: How to sequence drums/create drum loops?

I'm new to Acid. I'm currently using Acid 3.0 Music. I've put together some songs using canned loops. Works great.

If I want to create my own drum loops, do I need Acid 4.0 to do this, using the Piano Roll editor?

For a really simple example: I want to create a basic rock beat (highhat on the eigths, kick on 1 and 3, and snare on 2 and 4). How is this best accomplished? The last time I did this was using the DOS package FastTracker. It worked great for this; I believe this was classified as a sequencer.

If I understand correctly, if I have MIDI samples for the individual drums, I just need a sequencer to tie them together into beats.

Any help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You can use One Shot Audio (WAV) build any thing you choose. I haven't used Music in so long I don't recall what limitations it has compared to Pro Editions for instance number of tracks. Pro Editions have unlimited track capability. I normally don't use Acid to make loops anyway, for drum loops I either use

Fruityloops is THE drum loop creator. Saves in Acid format perfectly looped with effects "wrapped" so no nasty cutoffs...

Based on what I've seen, I'd like to upgrade to Acid 4.0 Pro and try to make this work within Acid. But first, can someone confirm that I can:
1) Build drum loops in the piano roll editor?
2) Save them as acidized loops, for inclusion into other songs?
Sounds like yes, but I just want to make 100% sure. Thanks!

1 - yes. but..see below.
2. sure.

doing it thorugh midi and the piano roll is not the easiest process and i'd recommend getting something like reason or fruity if you want to do midi-based sequencing.
instead, use ACID like it was intended and do it with One-Shots up the wazoo!!
just get a one-shot of a snare, a hat, and a kick, and set the grid to snap at 1/16th notes. that's 95% of what you'll need right there. i've used acid this way for years and it's actually very fast and easy to create beats from scratch once you get into it.

Just like Spesimen said, you can definately program original drum loops with one-shot .wav with the version of Acid that you using. You can also render your original drum programming as a loop as well. Also, don't forget its possible to cut up loops that you are currently using by using the "split at cursor" command (the keystroke is the letter s). This way you can cut up a loop and rearrange it any way you.

Easier to do with with the Fruity DEMO version - you can make your loops much faster, export them Acidised and not even have to buy the full app !
