I assume you have your external MIDI keyboard hooked up correctly to you machine.

- From the MIDI prefs page, enable the MIDI input port that your keyboard is connected to.
- Enable Auto Input Routing (on by default)
- Enable Real-time MIDI monitoring in ACID.
- Add Reason to your project.
- Open the Softsynth Property page if it is not already open in ACID.
- Launch Reason by clicking on the Open button on the Softsynth property page for Reason or starting Reason externally from the Start menu or from the Icon on your desktop

- ACID will reflect the available "MIDI devices/Port" that Reason exposed.
If Reason does not load the project you want or the default rack you want, configure Reason as you desire.
- ACID will refelect the changed to the MIDI controllable device that you change/configure in Reason.

- Select the synth in the ACID softsynth property page for Reason by highlighting it the list view. Note that only MIDI ports that can be played will have a "keyboard" show up. If you click on the keyboard keys you should now hear the synth. If you don't, then something is not setup correctly in either Reason or ACID.

If you play your external keyboard, you will now also trigger the Reason Synth.

If you don't hear anything, click the Mixer bus associated to Reason. Play the extenal keyboard again.

Also if you have the latest version of Acid Pro, you can use Reason from within Acid via rewire, seems to work better than fiddling with a bunch of midi settings, otherwise what the opther guy said should work just as well. ;)

yeah, i use them together all the time, and haven't had to fiddle with any settings - i just let reason grab the midi input port and i'm off and running. i think you might have to make sure the reason window is on top when recording midi into it but that's usually the window i have open anyway when getting stuff into it's sequencer or tweaking patches..
