Here's what I want to do: 1. open 2 different softsynths (say FM7 and Absynth) 2. play both at the same time and be able to hear both at the same time 3. route and record both to the same track Any ideas anyone? TIA!! |

I think you're going to have to copy the track and apply one synth to each one. |

Greetings clarksil, Before I answer your questions I have one of my own. Which version (and build) of Acid do you have? I have Pro 4.0d and I can tell you what I would do in your situation. If you don't have the same version as me try it anyway but I can't guarantee that it'll work. Here's what I want to do: 1. open 2 different softsynths (say FM7 and Absynth) My two latest projects both have three VSTis open so that shouldn't be a problem. 2. play both at the same time and be able to hear both at the same time Do you mean both playing the same notes at the same time? If so, simply assign them both to the same controller in the 'Soft Synth Properties' window. Do you mean both playing different notes (melodies) at the same time? If so, you'll need to be able to 'split' the keyboard/controller (e.g. 'top' half Absynth, 'bottom' half FM7) - my keyboard doesn't have this facility - or use two seperate controllers simultaneously - I only have the one controller and even if I had two I'm not a musician so I would find this very difficult, good on you if you can. 3. route and record both to the same track I don't think this bit's possible in Acid, AFAIK you can only select one 'Thru' at a time when doing a MIDI recording. However, you can record them seperately and either bounce them to one track or route them through their own buss. HTH One Love, Spy! |

Also check out Chainer at www.xlutop.com It will run multiple VST instruments and effects on the same channel. Baxter |

In Cubase one can record as many soft synths as possible for the CPU at the same time and generate a separate midi track for each synth. Acid is unable to do this? Also, when I say play the same notes, YES, I am talking about combining the sounds of all the open synths at the same time in a layered type fashion. |

Try using this tool that lets you stack 100+ VSTi and FX as 1 plugin: http://www.xlutop.com/html/chainer.html I see Baxter has mentioned this one too. Or this: http://perso.wanadoo.fr/vb-audio/us/products/dxrack/dxrack.htm |

I use Chainer as my VSTi host and record out individual voice lines from it (using Tobybear's Channel Grabber 2), then pull the waves into Acid for mixing. Works great. And very light on the cpu. |

Chainer works great and does just what I am looking for. Ir seems to be quite stable as well. Thanks to those of you who responded. |

1. make sure you have a folder called Vstplugins and that ACID is pointing to it in Options/preferences, if not you can create that folder then browse to it under the alternate search folder. ( this assumes you have installed a vst instument(s) such as triangle, absynth, crystal). I don't think acid automatically installs any. 2. when you load or install your vst instrument make sure you install it to that Vstplugins folder. Make sure the soft synths .dll file is in that folder. 3. Right click the track pane and select insert midi track, name the .mid file to a folder of your choice, save. 4. click the midi icon on the track list> insert soft synth>select your soft synth. If it is not there you can click VSTi preferences and repeat 1. above hth |

Your question leads me to believe that you do not have any soft synth plugin's, assuming this is true, download this free one as a test: http://www.rgcaudio.com/triangle_II.htm click on the downloaded link then click save, you can save the T2111.exe to your desk top, or where ever, I have made a folder called vsti downloads, that I save to. Once it's done downloading dbl click on the T2111.exe icon, follow the install instructions, but make sure you install it into your VSTplugins folder that I mentioned before. You can now go into acid (btw you will also need a midi keyboard to play it, sorry if I am too literal) J |

Remember to go into the VSTi preferences and rescan the folder. |
