all i am trying to do is record a few acoustic guitar and vocal tracks on pro 4.0 and during playback it warbles and crackles. is this happening because my computer can not handle the program or can i do something within acid to fix the problem.
i have a gateway pentium 4 laptop w/ 128MB RAM & 1GHz drive.
-if it is in fact my computer any suggestions on other programs that will be more compatable with what i have?
thanks guys, rather not waste another week on this

That's not very much RAM for recording no matter what application you use. Make sure you shut down every other program you don't need to record. Also, how many tracks and how long are the recordings? It's rare that I'll have a recording in acid that's longer than a minute or so.

Whats your processor speed? Also, are you using a soundcard? If so, what kind? What kind of drivers are you using? Whats your latency set at? How many tracks are in the project? Are they tracks one shots, loops, or beatmapped? How long are the recordings? Do you have any programs running in the background? What operating system? All these are basic question thatthe forum needs to know before we can suggest a set of actions.

if you're running WinXP with that amount of ram. I'll pray for you. :)
you really need a minimum of 512 ram for audio. No matter what OS

thanks for the input so far, i figured it was my computer too. i am trying to have about 6 tracks per song, each in one shot recording audio (otherewise it is out of sync) and running about 4 minutes. i have windows XP with a pentium 4, @ 1 GHz speed. i do not have a soundcard. as far as i know no other programs are running while i try to record. it doesnt matter how long or how many tracks loop, it happens immediately. how far would getting a decent soundcard and upgrading to 512 MB of RAM go to solving this little dilemma?

If you're running 6 tracks of 4 minute one shot recordngs, I'm suprised your pc hasn't blown up yet! ;-) Acid is not made to do that, it's made to loop recordings which is cool. Can you link me to some music you've uploaded so I can hear it or tell me what you're recording, ie guitar, bass, vox, etc?

I've heard (and I don't know how true it is) that having more than 512MB of RAM can be detrimental to a DAW. Can anyone shed any light on this?

Spy: I believe that's only if you use Windows 9x/Me as your OS and have more than 512 MB of RAM installed. Windows 2000/XP do not exhibit the problem.

More info can be found here.

jimi869: SoFo's Vegas should help you out for true multitracking capability.
