Can you use the remaining space later? Nope, not for a DVD in the sense used here. for making movies. Good question though. Something else I haven't got around to is using a DVD as a data disc.

a) has anyone tried and if so with what software?

b) if you can does it support a method similar to what you can do with a CD and if your format in advance, can drag and drop files on it multi session?

What I know for sure you can do and have done it several times is if you use a RW disc, DVD-A and many other DVD Authoring packages will allow you to erase what's on the disc already so you can reclaim a disc for something else. Most media is suppose to able to support up to 1,000 rewrites, but I would think that's pushing it. I've rewritten a disc 8 times so far just messing around and it doesn't seem to effect quality...yet.

I use Nero as my data DVD back up. I use a couple of different RW DVD's and just back up an entire drive. Nero is nice because it's all drag and drop, supports multi fomats. Give it a test drive.

BillyBoy, Roxio's Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 allows you to create data DVDs very easily.

I created a multisession DVD+RW using RecordNow DX that came with the Sony DRU-500A drive. First, I burned just the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders created by DVD-A to the disc using the (default) setting of "Track At Once - Disc Open". That created the first session. Then I added the project folders I created which contain the Vegas and DVD-A project files, including the batch capture files. I believe that this second session is not visible by a DVD player. This way, I have a working copy of the finished project that plays in a set top DVD player and still have access to all the data required should a re-edit be necessary in the future, all on one disc!

Thanks all for the info. This does create another question for you dvdude. #1. You burned your project. #2 You dragged and dropped the project files to same DVD???? And they are still accessible? Was not to sure that was able to be done!! When burning at the default setting "Track At Once - Disc Open", I was under the impression that I could burn one project to my DVD, then add another one?!! I know I may be asking the same question as my original question but it seems the statement "Disc Open" would mean just that.

Altho I used a DVD-R (for transportability to other players), Nero enabled me to burn a DVD movie by copying the VIDEO_TS folder to the disc, and I also just drag & dropped two MPEG files onto the disk. The latter two files are invisible to a standalone DVD player, but all 3 are playable on a computer DVD drive.
