using acid pro 4d on a amd xp1800 with 256mb ram and a nice clean 80gig hd (winxp pro)..

the song is small (9mb used of mem) and is only 2 midi tracks and 2 vocal wav's.

1 midi is triggering "subtractor" through rewire in reason. works fine.

2nd midi is triggering "albino" vsti synth. works fine.

vox have ultrafunk compressor and waves trueverb in the track fx. (each has its own instance) works fine.

both vox then go through an fx bus loaded with izotope trash for a few seconds at the end of the chorus. that works fine too.

theres a dry drum loop in there just to keep time. thats fine.

the problem..
when the song is playing everything is great. works fine. however i like to tweak the sound as i listen but when i change patches with the albino vsti after about 3 changed patches the song abruptly stops and the computer hangs. it doesnt lock up though. the hang studders in about 15-40 second intervals. meaning if i click the start button it pops up 15 seconds to 40 seconds later. if i click stop in reason or acid it doesnt do anything. i can switch between them but neither do anything. ctl-alt-del has a long delay too. and shutting down the "non responding" acid and reason takes a few minutes. all works well again untill i try to change patches (which is quite a standard procedure i think). i know i can just stop changing the patch on the fly but that not a cure, just a band aid so to speak. so please no goofy replies. i know how to get around it. it just kills my workflow to have to. any ideas from official sf would be nice too.

also with the vsti's i notice that the patch randomly changes. whats up with that?

thanks,
~mz

something i forgot.. after a new track is recorded added i have to go and adjust the positions of 1 or 2 other tracks as they were mysteriously shifted a few measures (i saw this was happening to someone else earlier). also the volume of my reason synth comes in at different volumes every time i stop and start the song.

i think i may revert to 4.0c and wait for a rewire revision. honestly, the time i spend fixing stupid crap is about 5 times more than i do creating the damn song in the first place. i run a guitar track in 3 minutes (one take) and it takes me 20 minutes to fix all the stuff that went nuts after the recording stopped. talk about a creative buzzkill.

i love acid though!! just keep doing what your doing SF! it will get there one day.

now help me please!!!

Do you change patches during playback or when the project is not playing?

Is the Albino VSTi a resource-hungry soft synth? Any updates for it available?

What other VSTi's do random patch changes?

1 while playing, but the weirdness gets "saved" because its still funky even if i stop and restart the song.

2 albino is fairly hungry but no more than any other.

3 all of them.

i have started some new tunes with no effects or synths loaded and the newly recorded tracks always have to be readjusted (slid) to meet the song timing. this is a persistant problem that just started with my update to 4d.
