Ok...

There's been a huge amount of discussion in the forum about Acid style / music / pro comparisons, usually ending up with a URL to the comparision chart(s).

Here's my problem;

I don't have enough cash for Pro, so we can forget about that right now ( I can always upgrade later if I turn out to be the next Tall Paul...)

Acid Xpress pretty much does what I want to do, except for a few things;

it has limited tracks
can't save to anything other than Acid-specific formats
No FX

Now, I would buy Acid Style techno, but, the "genre-specific" thing in the chart puts me off, what exactly does this mean, can I import my own .wavs, and will I be able to open existing acid projects?

And also;

what are the following features:
ripple editing
Beatmapper
Effect Envelopes

Many thanks, and if there's anything else Music can do that Techno can't, please inform!

Above is the link for the demo version of Acid DJ3.0
Download it, try it out and see if it does what you want it to do.
You can always check out the comparison chart to see the differences between Acid DJ and Acid Music. Music is more expensive, but gives you alot of bang for the buck. Download the demo for Music after and try IT out.

Hope this helps.

Get Acid Music.

I started with DJ and needed more features but not the enormous amount included in the Pro version. I use other software for those features, and spending money for something I already had was out of the question.

Its been more than a year since upgrading to Music 3.0 and I have only one complaint: The included effects are extremely limited and don't sound that great so I bought Acid FX thinking I could use them instead. WRONG! Acid Music is limited to the effects that came with it. Any other effects have to be applied outside of Acid Music.

Thats fine for me because I have other software (Cubase, WaveLab, Sonar, Logic, etc) that I can export Acid tracks into for processing.

If you don't have other software and need an assortment of effects, use any Acid Style (Techno, DJ, etc) until you can save up and get the Pro version.

IMHO, there is no functional difference between DJ and the other Styles. I think the differences are the loops that come with each but you can use Techno loops in DJ and vice-versa.

Correct! The only difference between the DJ and other Styles is what is included in the Content CD.

Both Acid DJ/Techno 3.0 have unlimited tracks but have a maximum bit depth/sample of 16-bit/48khz. If you hava a CompUSA near you, check it out. The price is very very good and the price on the box is not correct. You can use any .WAV file, save or open MP3 files and change Temp/Pitch. There is MIDI playback support as well.

Good Luck!
