I'm probably going to buy SF Studio. I'm looking to mix and crossfade a lot of individual pieces into larger mixes, and then burn them onto CD-Rs. I would like to have index points at various spots in the mixes. I think the way I'll do this is by dropping portions of the wav files into a DAO burning program, and telling it to burn the CD-R with zero time between tracks.

Any recommendations for PC-compatible software?

There's a very good chance that whatever software came with your CD burner will do this for you, and you've already got it. My last burner came with Easy CD Creator and i did exactly what you describe: break the mix into individual .wav files and burn them in DAO mode. Some burners come with Nero, which i often use now. This will do the job just as well.

My current Sony burner came with something called B's Gold, which was pretty awful. If you've got that then i would suggest not even trying it. ;)

If you need crossfading and track/index placement, CD Architect can't be beat.

I believe that CD Architect would make my life a lot easier. I guess I've just got to decide whether it's worth the extra money compared to using SF Studio and Nero or EZ CD Creator.

Take a look at Cakewalk's Pyro. Its probably the best buy for all the features you want ($30 download).
