Subject:Reason Songfile in Acid

Anyone know how to record a reason song in Acid? I can open up the Reason songfile and play it through Acid, but am not able to route it such that I create a midi file. I know how to create a midi file using my keyboard contoller, but don't quite know how to route the reason song to record it by just playing the songfile. For example, when I attempt to record the song, I get no monitoring in the record dialog box, although the song does play.

Have you tied using Reason in rewire mode? You can do it if you have the latest update, 4c or 4d. And I don't think you're openinb up a reason song in acid, but rather a midi file. But you should check out the new rewire capabilities, it's pretty awesome when you get it going.

I am using reason in rewire mode, however, I cannot get acid to record the Reason song into a midi track. Help anyone?

Reason does not send it MIDI data to ACID as something that can be "recorded". Reason's sequencer doesn't work that way and is generally not how ReWire is expected to work.

A ReWire device exposes audio buses that ACID places in its mixer page.
A ReWire device CAN expose MIDI "outputs" to ACID so that ACID can send MIDI data to the synths in Reason.

The only MIDI data that Reason sends to ACID would be when you move a knob or slider on the Reason interface. ACID does not record this data.

I've done that and I guess that is the only way at this point.

...you can save your Reason song as a midifile and then open it in ACID. Of course, you'll need to visit Genie-Sys to get Stolen Track which will let you seperate each track out of your midifile. once that's done, you just assign your sounds to synths and you're off to the races. This works pretty well...I've done this a lot. Of course, with Reason 2.5, you really don't have to leave the environment unless you want to...you can get a finished product from it(unless your recording vocals, guitars or other live instruments).

Thanks to all so far. Maybe in a subsequent version this can be done. I would also like to record from Groove Agent, Tassman, etc. Hopefully Acid will have slave rewire capabilities eventually, and not just host. I know that it is far beyond what it was originally intended for, but at this point, why not!!

i don't really understand your question. with rewire reason performs just like vsti in acid pro. the procedure playing and recording reason should be the same as using a vsti. you can sequence in acid, run you're synths virtual or stream them to loops to save on cpu.

if you're trying to just play a pre-existing reason sequence and trying to edit the MIDI data in acid as stated earlier it can't be done, but why would you want to? just solo the track and render it.
