I'm having some trouble with one of my tracks. The melody in this track is fine but when the vocals kick in they sound sort of distorted. When the bloke starts singing, evey 'S' hisses really loud. Anything I can do to stop that annoying sound?

Also, I've recoreded a few tunes from my mates decks, only thing is that the sound on one of the speaker sides is quieter that the other, how can I make the sound from both speakers identical?

(yeah, as you've guessed I'm a Sound Forge Virgin, help me out please)
Tar -t.

Removing Ssssses is best done with Multi-Band Dynamics. What you want to accomplish is to reduce the volume whenever the S is strongest, and only in the frequency range of the hiss. I just tried a little test run with these settings:
- Threshold -15dB
- Amount: 12:1
- Type: High-shelf
- Above: 4Khz
The results were marginally acceptable for a first try. With additional tweaking it can be improved a lot. Of course, the settings depend greatly upon your source material. Play with it a bit in preview mode and see what helps the most.

Equalizing the channels is relatively easy in SoundForge. You can select each channel indendantly and adjust the volume. If there aren't any radical peaks in either channel then perhaps normalizing each channel independantly will do the job for you.

What i would do is as follows... Take your background track and quieten it right down in the process / volume. Then do the same for your vocals until they dont clip and distort. Next mix paste the two together, and remember - you can always make it louder later when it is all mixed and finished realy good.
