A PC question, RAM at 333mhz or 400mhz

This is not a Vegas question, but who can I ask about this? (who knows the answer that is!)

We are all PC users, so maybe someone here can help..

I have an AMD 2700, that runs the FSB at 333mhz (166)
RAM is 400mhz, the MB supports this.

Is it best to run the RAM at 333 so there is some "synchronicity", or 400 because its faster,
Or is 400 pointless anyway because the FSB is 333....etc

Thanks!

Set 400mhz. Is your ram rated for that speed? You don't mention it, but you imply it is. Do some benchmarking and heavy test sessions with it.

Remember, stability should be foremost.

*note: If unstable, you may want to bump up the the mem voltage one step as well if your mobo supports it as you go to 400mhz mem.

Thanks Joe

Yes it is rated 400mhz..

I'm scared to overclock anything on this PC, for the benefit of stability..
yet you are saying increasing the voltage will aid stability?

By the way, I have just changed the CPU from a 133/266 to 166/333 fsb and the performance increase introduced is more than the clock speed difference...which I attribute to the FSB, proving it is relevant to audio use.

Only you know how stable it is, just run it through it's paces and make sure (you don't want any surprises during tracking, etc).

Careful with oc-ing AMD - make sure you know what your'e doing and have decent to great cooling going on.
