You've gotta get Inspector, a sophisticated free spectrum analyzer plugin from Elemental Audio. While you're there, check out the EQ plugins, too. They're not free but they get rave reviews. (I'm giving you the kvr discussion link so you can see what people are saying.)

Another one to watch is Channel Grabber 2 by Tobybear. It's still in beta with some features being added and kinks being worked out, but I use it constantly. I have all these cleanly recorded mono voice lines to pull into Acid for mixing, in no time at all! If you want to see an explanation of what it does, and if you're interested in the give-and-take of plugin development, see this.

dkistner,
Thank you very very much for the link towards Inspector. This was THE tool I'm searching for a long time to analyse my mixdown files.
This FREEWARE is really a MUST HAVE!

Regards,
jam

Have you discovered all it can do? The RMS indicators! The balance indicators! Just very cool. And SO useful for visualizing filtering of individual voice lines!

Seems to me I recall Inspector has to be put in a wrapper to use directly in Acid. I've got the SpinAudio wrapper, but I haven't tested it yet with the new update. (I did see a post here about potential problems with SpinAudio-wrapped plugins in 4.0c.) But you could put it on the master bus and see the spectrum for the entire piece, and what effect any track filtering might have on the whole. Yes, very cool.
