Subject:Can't hear Rewire apps

I'm new to Rewire.......when I use Reason as a Rewire app, I can't hear any sounds. The mixer responds, so I know there's a signal. And if I assign a sound to a device without auditioning it and add it to a track, then I can hear it when I push play, but what good is that? Is there a setting that I am overlooking? Thanx.

Not sure if I'm understanding your question.

As Reason's operation manual states, when you route digital audio, you should use something like ACID as the mixer app (since it's the master anyway).

Take the mixer out of the equation in Reason and route everything directly to the hardware interface. Then add each channel as appropriate within ACID.

The only time you'd use the mixer in Reason is when you're going to route MIDI tracks from ACID to Reason.

If you'd like to route already-existing MIDI tracks to Reason, simply route the MIDI track like you would any other soft synth. (MIDI tracks can be routed via Mix L\Mix R and then to the specific port (or device) in Reason.)

As I was saying before my dog pushed enter...............I have a project open in Acid, I add a Rewire bus, which opens Reason. Let's say I open a Malstrom Synth. How do I hear the synth when messing around in Piano Roll? I can see the signal on the synth, but not on the audio out panel.

Craig Anderton wrote some tips on using Rewire. This was for Sonar, but should be applicable to other software according to the man.

Ah, sounds like you want to route MIDI to Reason then and use it like a soft synth.

Make sure real-time MIDI is enabled in ACID Pro. ALT+F7 is the shortcut.

Once you route the MIDI track specifically to the Malstrom synth (see my previous post), it should work.
