<b>WOW!</b> Slider Show to Markers Script: Alexei Boukirev

I've just placed a mass of PNGs to On-The-Beat-Markers. This is brilliant. Not only do you not need to expland the previuosly "captured" T/L stills to fill the gaps, BUT this amazing little script does it for you. You can also determine the amount of dissolve time for each event.

Now! - Because I was wanting a Zoom through effect to go to the next stil, I set-up the first "placed" still with a Zoom Out and copied and pasted these attributes to the following stills - ON THE BEAT - which makes them dissolve, zoom out and zoom through the next one. Brilliant!

BIG THANKS to: Alexei Boukirev the scripter!!!!

I borrowed the idea from one of the articles claiming MediaStuio Pro 7 can do that. So I though, why, Vegas should be able to do it too.

If you have a request to enhance functionality drop me a line (I guess, e-mail is in my profile on sundancemedia). I'm looking into different sorting and filtering, like img11*.jpg or such. Besides, some snippets can be used in other scripts.
Don Seils asked for limiting the area of effect, and I did that in latest version.
He also asked to be able to put each group of images (subsequent script runs) on a different track - I'm working on it.

How do you manage a large amount of images? Do you sort them into different bins? Or do you organize them into folders in explorer? Maybe picking them from folders/directories instead of bins will be better?

Alexei - oooh I feel like I've just got an early Birthday present! - Do I have ideas for you boyo!! - These ideas are totally off the top of my head - please don't be offended - apologies and respect if you read this as such - yeah?

Right [rolls up sleeves . . . . and wipes brow ] . . . .

1. Yes, separate bins for on the fly projects. This means creating Bins for and when I want 'em - yeah? Now the thing is I'm a real messy editor - sometimes I don't even approach a project from the same direction when I get going. I like to have flexibility and make up a workflow pattern on the run. - What this means is having an option to steal my PNG images from the T/L and having to create a new bin so I can organise the project. Like to hve a way to develop an approach and be able to stick up a "reusable" button for the script - Yes, I know I can go into the V4 menus and elect to have a button up there - BUT ALEXEI!!! - How's zabout having a thingy on you GUI whuch says "Yah wanna a Button on the workspace for this latest set-up" - Maybe it could get my first name from somewhere from within my registration name to say "Hey, Grazie - want some more of this Kool stuff!"

2. Having the stills in chrono-logical order from whence they were "captured" will act as a lay down for something like a final "Review" at the end of a video - yeah?

3. FUN STUFF! Selecting the tranny from within V4 for the tranni I want - yeah?

4. Applying from elsewhere Pan/Crop:Zoom setups from within your script would be reeealllyy neat!

5. Variable speed/graph transitions like the V4 curves?

6. Chaining 2/3/4/5/6/7 . . . separate stills together - yeah?

7. Picking up Masks to act as trannsitions - weird eh?

8. Ability to "Create" new Bin from within your script?

9. Copy>Paste Attributes from within your script?

10. THEN there is another one - MOVIE CLIPS to Marker! - Haven't truly sorted this out but there is something in there.

Alexei - I think any more would be greedy.

I just can't tell you how terrific your script is. - But, what is vital to your approach has been your recognition and awareness of making something easy to use and timesaving for the NLEr.

Don't worry I'll search for your email and eChat with you. - I come with a huge caveat - I AINT NO PROGRAMMER - but I guess this is an advantage 'cos i don't see "code" problems I just have a gizzillion ideas wishing for a solution - yeah?

Hang loose! Be Kool!!!!

Adding a lot of stuff would be overkill - I don't want a script to become SAK (Swiss Army Knife). But some relevant ideas are scheduled for subsequent modifications.

You can already use video clips instead of or with images, but only video part of clips will go into created event (audio is ignored).

I just added a checkbox to choose whether you want to add a new track or just place slides on current (video) track.

Hiyah Alexei - Yup agreed - SAK approach is NOT an option - Picasso, "Less Is More" I'm cursed with over-enthusiasm - you aint gonna change me! ;-)

" . . some relevant ideas are scheduled for subsequent modifications." I'm interested to know 'bout these - I could give feedback.

"You can already use video clips" - Yup - I just noticed this as I "left" a vidclip in a stills BIN! I do understand the loss of audio - no problem - I'm assuming it takes the beginning of the clip?

Neat! - "I just added a checkbox to choose whether you want to add a new track or just place slides on current (video) track." - I almost jumped out of my skin when your script "created" a "Slideshow" track automatically - neat!

ISSUE: I've now used both scripts 1 and 10. I've found that when I close down Vegas and reboot laptop, the script informs that it can't find the previously used Clip Bin. I'm having to create a new bin, new name and Copy/Move over the clips to this new bin. Any ideas? - I understand that the information for where Clips are are stored in the "Registry"? Is this correct? What am I doing wrong?

Another thought: You say I can use video instead of Stills - audio ignored. But could I use pure soundfiles like WAVs? I'm thinking of a sound effect like a wooooosh to be placed as a clip/still appears AND on a marker beat?

Alexei thanks again for your script - pure genius! There much to do with this function.

"I've found that when I close down Vegas and reboot laptop, the script informs that it can't find the previously used Clip Bin."

I encountered this behavior with veggie that Don sent me - looks like veg file, specifically media pool bin structure gets corrupted, or something. Did you notice that it only happens to the very first bin in the tree? Or is it something else in your case?

Could someone inform SunDanceMedia that their sign-up form is crashing. I was trying to log in to it to try the script for a project at work and can't seem to get passed the script crash on the web site.

Thanks,

Curtis

Alex,

Trying to use the Slideshow to markers script but unsure how to use it. I'm creating markers on the audio, then running the script and seleting the media bin that has the images but the images do not fall on the markers. Can you give a newbie some help.

Thanks,

Mike

By default script creates a dissolve between images such that the midpoint of dissolve is at the marker. 'Overlap' parameter in the dialog controls the length of dissolve (total length = overlap * 2). Setting Overlap to 00:00:00 eliminates dissolve and aligns images on the marker. Try that.
If you need a different behavior, please describe it - it may appear interesting and relatively easy to implement.

I don't promise quick response though as my company just moved to different office and I'm busy setting things up.

My personal e-mail (I check it regularly unlike this place) and some write-up on the script are in issue #6 of the Vegas Tips'n'Tricks Newsletter from Ed Troxel (www.jetdv.com/tts/). Check archive.
