I've fully gone through a "diagnosis" of the effects the 4.0c/d patch has had on projects that use 5.1 Surround mode. I tried different combinations of the "Audio device type" on the Audio tab of Preferences and the Bit-depth of the Project Audio Properties. By the way, the sample rate is 44 kHz. My results are documented below: 24-bit with Direct Sound Surround Mapper: - Rear speakers do not play at all, yet rear channel meter shows signal - Items assigned to the rear speaker do not sound out at all - Items assigned to the Center speaker play in the Front speakers 16-bit with Direct Sound Surround Mapper: - All audio is slowed down and extremely distorted and unusable - Surround seems to direct properly, rear speakers and center speaker included 24-bit Microsoft Sound Mapper and Windows Classic Wave Driver: - Doesn't work - gives playback errors - known issue being addressed by SOFO 16-bit Microsoft Sound Mapper and Windows Classic Wave Driver: - Items assigned to the Rear channels end up playing in the front speakers, and the Rear channel meter shows activity when it should - Items assigned to the Center channel play in the Left Front and Left Rear speakers (dur?), and the Center channel meter shows activity when it should Again, my hardware setup is: Windows XP Home, DirectX 9.0a P4 2.53GHz, 512 Meg RAM Voyetra Turtle Beach Santa Cruz w/ THX certified 5.1 speaker system |
