Sound Forge 6.0 will not install on my system because it requires DirectX 8.0 and I have DirectX 9.

any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Are you saying it actually *won't* install ?

Or do you think you need DX8 even though you have DX9. DX's are backwards compatible ?

It says Sound Forge 6.0a has unmet requirements
DirectX 8.0 runtime
I use Windows XP and am unable to install 8.0 or unistall 9
although i was able to fix this same problem installing SONAR 2.0 that asked for DirectX8.1 by changeing the DirectX version # in my system configuration. You wouldn't happen to know DirectX8.0 version#?

example-DirectX 8.1 version 4.08.01.0810

thanks,

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE/MICROSOFT/DIRECTX/VERSION

DirectX Version: DirectX 8.1 (4.08.01.0881)

Export the key before editing it so you can merge it back to the registry after to restore the DirectX 9 version.

Did you try the 8.1 version?

Can't give you 8.0 but the installer should be looking for 8x.

something is strange because i have xp,sound forge 6.0,acid 3.0,fruity loops 3,and directx 9 all working in harmony on my computer.Maybe you need updated drivers for something???make sure directx 9 is up to date,or try reinstalling it.ckeck out microsoft updates selection in your program files if you have xp.it will ckeck automatically for you.good luck i know things really suck when they dont work.

dont even bother with 8 or 8x.that just means minimum.9 should rock your world if it is working properly.i have uninstalled and reinstalled 6.0 a million times with x9.

I'm thinking along those lines also. As far as I know this type of thing was a Sonar problem and they have a tool for that now. I have not seen any other posts along these lines with SF 6 or any other version.

I find it a little odd that a SF tech has not entered the thread and confirmed or denied this is a problem with their installer however reinstalling DirectX 9 couldn't hurt and may help.
