first ,thank you sofo team for an excellent product, your work is truly appreciated. im very happy with your 4.0c release, but is there someway to link the piano roll editor to the main project. example. when you record a midi track and edit the midi data in the piano roll editor, the project does not play along with the individual midi track. this makes editing midi a little hard. my only other gripe is about assigning midi channels to individual tracks but would that gensys editor solve this problem. thank you. |

I too was wondering what's up with the "Solo Track" button in the PR Editor.... It's not for soloing MIDI tracks, and none of the project audio tracks play along when using this editor(at least not here).......what does this button actually "solo"??? The piano roll editor in cubase plays the project tracks back, and the solo button works there. It solos just the selected MIDI track. Thanks. |

ACID is not a traditional MIDI sequencer, but a loop sequencer of "files". ACID lets you paint MIDI on the main time line just like you paint audio loops. ACID treats them no differently from the painting model on the main time line. Remember, in ACID you construct with loops or single files on the main track view. When you are in the context of the track properties, you are working with the file, NOT the project. You don't preview an audio loop from in the track properties within the context of the main time line. There is no relationship between the main time line for an Audio loop and its track properites. The same holds true for MIDI. You are editing the FILE associated to the ACID MIDI track. It is no different than editing an audio loop from the track properites. When you play from the track properties, you are previewing the media. The solo "track" toolbar button in the Piano Roll editor solos the "track" with in the MIDI sequence being edited. You can have as many "sub tracks" as part of your MIDI file as you want. You can only edit/view one track in the Piano Roll at a time. The solo button permits you to listen to isolate that track in the context of the MIDI file. Look at the General page of the MIDI track properties. Load in a a complex MIDI file into ACID. You will have multiple "tracks", each typically assigned to a specific MIDI channel. You can solo, mute, set the volume/pan for each MIDI track of the larger MIDI file. Note that if you do edit the raw MIDI data while you are playing back from the main time line, your MIDI edits do occur in realtime. You must work with MIDI tracks in ACID EXACTLY the same way you work with Audio tracks in ACID. The only difference is the type of media. This is ACID's design and intent. While you can do some sequencer like MIDI work, ACID was NEVER intended to replace a traditional MIDI sequencer. The point was to give another medium to create loops to paint with. We provided basic MIDI editing so that you can create MIDI loops without the need for an external MIDI editor. Peter |

Thanks Peter! Forgot about sub tracks in the complex midi files. That works. It just seems like it would be nice to hear it ALL while in the editor for.....reference to what and why your editing the midi anyway. Just a thought. Haven't been using Acid for midi that much lately, even though it's responsible for getting me back into midi in the first place.... I like Acid's basic midi features sometimes. Other times I wish it were different. Maybe ver. 5 will be more sequencer based or be a rewire device... Time will tell. |

thank you peter for your response i understand that midi has to fit into acids workflow. one more question. do you know if the editor (gensys) allows you to change midi channel info on the track, like if you recorded a track on midi channel 4 but want to change it to channel 15. thanks in advance |

>>do you know if the editor (gensys) allows you to change midi channel info on the track, like if you recorded a track on midi channel 4 but want to change it to channel 15. << I am not that up on the GenSys editor. However, you can change the MIDI channel on a track in ACID's general page. Double click on the channel cell in the track list and you can reassign it to what ever you want. If you enter a -1 it will revert to the default/original channel assignement. Peter |

In the Track Properties>Midi Editor look for the column that says "Chn" you should see a "1" with arrow pointing down, Click on the arrow, you should get a drop down menu that has 1 thru 16 and NONE George Ware |
