Subject:Important Question For the SoFo Team

Hy guys,
First of all, I'd like to thank you a million times for the fine work you guys put in the 4.0c release. Rewire works flawlessly as it should with Reason!!!

My only requests at the moment are these:

1.When will we be able to automate VSTi's and VST fx plugings? Also properly adding VST fx onboard Acid Pro w/o having to use a third party adapter would be nice.

2. Is there any way you guys could code Acid so that all MIDI sequences are saved internally in Acid so that we don't always have to save them separately elsewhere whenever we try to record from a VSTi synth? I'm so used to working this way with Reason, Orion Platinum, as well as Muzyz. In those apps, all you do is select the synth you want to use and record away and all the sequences are there without any extra fuss.
It's becoming a real pain to constantly have to select a directory and name the MIDI sequence before any real time recording or piano roll recording session. I'm hoping that this is something that can be fixed.

3. Last but not least....
Why is it that synths can't be manually automated while in record mode?

These features are a must in terms of Acid heading towards a full line complete DAW in my opinion. Well maybe in Acid Pro 5 I may get my wish.......I hope

Please comment soon on these requests. Thanx.

1. AFAIK, you can automate VSTi parameters as long as you have a MIDI controller that has such assignable knobs/sliders, etc.

2. I'm beginning to sound like a broken record here, but ACID was not meant to be a true MIDI sequencer, nor was it meant to be a complete DAW solution. MIDI has to fit within ACID's paradigm (looping), not the other way around. (Take into account the fact that you could never playback let alone record MIDI prior to ACID Pro 3.0.)

For example, when you record digital audio and then stop, it's a complete track all by itself. You basically can't add anymore data to that digital audio track if you wanted; you must record to a new track. It's the same with MIDI. (Though you can go into the MIDI track's properties and do some step recording in the List Editor.)

Is it backwards thinking to have MIDI and digital audio adhere to the same principle? IMO, not really. As was said numerous times, ACID is a loop-based music tool.

3. Again, I think that all depends on what you're using for hardware, specifically a MIDI controller with assignable parameters.

Thanks for that quick informative reply Iacobus!

Can you tell me where I can find and download a good MIDI editor to use with Acid so I can have full control over my VSTi parameters?

Thanks

You're welcome!

I don't know of an actual MIDI editor that works by automating VSTi's manually (i.e., doing it by mouse) in ACID Pro while recording, but this should be possible if you have the right MIDI controller no matter what VSTi you're using.

For example, the Oxygen8 from M-Audio has a total of 8 assignable knobs and 1 assignable slider for just about any MIDI parameter. Likewise, the Radium49 has 8 assignable knobs and 8 assignable sliders. (Check out their respective manuals for more info at M-Audio's site.)

If you have either of these MIDI controllers (or a comparable one), you should be able to automate MIDI parameters (and subsequently capture them) in real time while recording.

HTH,
Iacobus
