Pretty extensive update for what is normally just a maintenance release. Kudos for the ACID Pro R&D team on this one. It seems this will be well worth the wait!

Not much need for sonar rewired to reason if you ask me. Still has its place though. But after testing with it in acid all this time I'm having a really hard time letting go of this acid rewired to reason thing. ;) It's just soooooooooo much fun!

>>MIDI tracks can only be routed to the master output of a ReWire 2.0 panel application. Check your ReWire panel application's documentation to determine which version of ReWire it supports. To use the ReWire panel only as a soft synth, remove (or mute) all sequencing from the ReWire panel application and use ACID as your sequencer.<<

Is this full rewire capability?

P.s. Thanks SF team !!

>>Is this full rewire capability?

Yes, with one exeption:
ACID does not support recording of MIDI data sent from the ReWire device to the host. This functionality will have to wait for ACID 5.0.

Each different ReWire device integrates into a ReWire Host/Mixer basically the same, but can have different behavior depending on how they expose their features through ReWire. For example:

- Live! is a ReWire 2.0 device, but it does not expose MIDI ports, and will not open at the request of the ReWire mixer. (Basically Live! is a ReWire 1.0 device, but a 2.0 mixer.)

- Project 5 is a ReWire 2.0 device, but doesn't tell the host about its MIDI ports. (SONAR just ASSUMES that all ReWire devices will expose MIDI ports and this is why Project 5 works with in SONAR.) It also doesn't like to play outside of the defined loop region. Cakewalk is updating P5 to address these issues.

The only ReWire devices that work according to the ReWire spec - for the most part - are Reason and Rebirth, but even they don't take advantage of the entire specification.

We can record the midi inside reason! Works cool and it's fine with me!

Works great so far, rewire is very nice on my machine. Zero problem to install. Thank you very much sonyfo and Peter! :)

Any chance of seeing Acid has a rewire slave or live automation of effects like the EQ via the knobs? I do all kinds of sweep using the mouse and I'd love to record some of theses moves.

I noticed a little bug with the EQ. When I play with one of the EQ knobs, sometimes it disables by itself (fooling around with the song playing). It happened 2 times tonight. The knobs isn't reseted though.

Does that mean that acid will now output audio tracks through rewire? Cool if so cos i can use fx and midi in cubase.....

Nice to see that the Sofo guys are really taking notice of what ppl. were asking for here :-)

Cheers

Whenever I get an update, life is good...anyone else..? and that makes me wanna look at the feasibility of purchasing other SOFO products/perks as well; spoking the wheel...

I was hoping too, but Im afraid its not a Rewire device so it wont plug into Cubase

Oh, joy! I can hardly wait to try it!

It's been a long time since I've done an update. Can somebody refresh my memory?

If I get the full install, I uninstall Acid first, then reinstall and enter the serial number and activation code from my initial Acid Pro 4.0 (Special, downloadable)?

I think when I did this the last time I did the full install, so I don't think the patch is what I need. I just want to be sure I don't trash myself here....

Hi Diane,

You can either install the "b to c" update or the full update over your existing installation or uninstall what you have installed and install the full update, which can act either as a demo or the full product. (Be sure to keep your serial key handy.)

HTH,
Iacobus

I installed the full c update over the top of the a to b update patch. The installation went fine, then I rebooted the PC before launching.

But oh no ! When I launched it took a looooong time to launch and then I got a series of about a dozen errors: can't find photshop dll, can't find Nero dll, can't find etc etc. In all cases it says to "check the original installation" ? Eh ? All this software is 100% legit btw.

4c finally loaded and everything ran OK. I then rebooted again. To my great relief I got no errors or odd messages and everything runs smoothly. But this is a bit odd isn't it ?

Should I just consider it all a bad dream and forget about it ?

I'm on a Asus P4B266 P4 1.8 with 1Gb RAM and a Pulsar-II card.

Edit: I didn't uninstall 4b first - could that be the source of the errors ?

paradiddle,

Automation of parameters for synths and FX in Reason can either be done via Reason's built in automation capabilities (check the Reason manual) or through MIDI CC sweeps in a MIDI track in ACID sent to that device. Unfortunately, I cannot find a reference for Reason to let me know which CC's correspond to which parameters. I had to save my project and then scroll through them with my controller to find the one I wished, then revert to my saved project.

Spirit,

No idea why you'd see that strange string of errors, then again, we don't frequently test our installers against machines that have Photoshop, Nero, or most of the thousands of other software packages for Windows, since it'd be nearly impossible. I've installed ACID 4.0c over 4.0b (or earlier 4.0c) builds about a hundred times, and not seen any issues like that. In fact, installing 4.0c over 4.0(x) should be the best way to go, since then you don't lose your preferences, favorites, and other settings, as you would if you uninstall and reinstall.

If all is working now, then you're likely in the clear.

Hi! I was talking about ACID fx realtime automation like the track EQ with the knobs not reason. It would be great to record theses in realtime.

Paradiddle,

Thanks, yep. Currently, they're locked to the edit cursor, but it's certainly our hope to have them associated to the play cursor for real-time recording in the future.

Thanks,
Joel

Disregard my last post. It's not a bug, I'm the bug :) I never knew I could disable the EQ points by double clicking on them. Nice!
