Subject:Acid 4c won't even open due to problems with spin audio plugs

when I open acid 4c as it opens and scans the plugs it opens some 100 boxes that say "can't set picture" and then the path name for each button in all of the spin audio plugs.
clean install, and it seems to happen when searching for vst instruments.
I have never had this happen before in 3 years of using acid, so it would seem to be a problem with acid 4c.

anyone else confirm this?

Which SpinAudio plug-ins are you using?

The DX plugs, or the VST Adapter, or something else?

Thanks,
Joel

I have all of the spin audio plugs. After a clean instal of acid 4c it opened, went thru the registration process, and fully opened.
I checked the plug-in list, and the dx versions showed up fine. I then went to the preferences setup to re-setup my personal settings, and ran a vsti scan, and that's when everything goes wrong.
the dialogue boxes say-
unable to set picture propertyof check: (insert the various pats here)
then acid closes.
it appears to think that every vstFX I have is a vstI in the search. I only say this because as it starts the search for vsti's it lists all the vstfx as, for example, ohmboyz vst instrument, (and then) Predhatome vst instrument, etc....

The only way for any host to tell the difference between a VST and a VSTi is to load them and ask them. If the VST tells us that it is a VSTi, then we list it as a VSTi.

Sounds to me like a problem with the Spin Audio plugs looking for something they can't find.

You will get the same error in Cubasis (and likely other apps which support VSTis). It's something that's a problem with the SpinAudio plug-ins.

look, I don't have a problem with them in any other vst host I have. CubaseSX, FL Studio, or acid 4b.
4c doesn't see most of my vst instruments either. yes, the path is right, yes FLS and Cubase still see them. yes acid 4b see's them. but 4c= no pro-53, no Reaktor 3 or 4, no junglist, scorpion, plucked string, and about 93 others.

this is weird, now all of the plugs have disapeared from those apps too.
WOW! all I did was uninstal acid4b and install4c, and now all my vsti's have disapeared.
Looks like a long night of re-installing. crap!

What OS are you running? Please let me know what other VSTis you have installed so I can check this out on our end.

Thanks,
Jenn

win2000 sp3, p4 2Ghz, 512 ram, Tascam US-428
it's starting to work fine after re-installing my vsti's. I've re-installed 6 of them and acid is opening and finding things right now. To bad I have another 90 or so to go. :(
I am a bit suspect at an installation error of some sort while installing acid4c, as that's the only thing I did.
I weekly backup, and scan for viruses (viral software is off though so that wasn't it).

Do you remember what the installation error you saw was?

Also, have you checked under Add/Remove programs to see if your VSTis are still installed? Having them not show up may simply require a rescan for available VSTis in your applications, rather than a full install install of all of them.

yep, they were not in my add/remove programs. The only ones that showed up in add/remove programs were ones that were stand-alone as well as vst or dx such as pro-53, reaktor, b4 and so on.

beleive me, I tried the re-scan in FLS, and Cubase and acid a few times each.

yep, now after re-installing about 30 vst's acid is working and the vsti's i've installed are showing up and working fine. Unfortunatly, whatever happened took out every single vst and vsti I had EXCEPT for the standard ones that come on the install of Cubase and Fruity. even though those are all installed to the same vst folder.

I would go into the registry and delete the section under Acid containing all of the plugin info. Then rescan with Acid and you should be ok. Hkey_CurrentUser>software>Sonic Foundry>ACID>4.0>Metrics>Vsti Synth.Plugs. Delete the Plugs and rescan. It worked for me in the past when I had problems. Also, I found that installed all VST plugins into the programfiles>VST plugins directory works much better, than usiong any other dir. Hope this helps and good luck!!! All mine are working fine.

Glad I caught this before I installed 4.0c today. Clarksil, do you use SpinAudio's DX Wrapper? I've got a few wrapped VST plugins (AmbienceDX, InspectorDX), and I'm wondering if I should take these out first, before I do the install. Buckskin, thank heaven I don't have 90 made up yet! :) But can I assume any new ones I make are going to work?
