hello: I just bought sound forge 6 and i am finding it is easy to use, but hard to master. I am trying to record some old vinyl to keep the recordings. I am finding that I can only run the line in at a very low volume, otherwise, the input values go far into the red. Is this normal? Also, I was wondering what steps someone would take to input the recording in an optimal fashion, and what steps to take to reduce backround noise, raise volume, etc.? any suggestions? |

You need a (phono) pre-amp with the proper equalization curve. Don't attempt to play old records with out it. In addition, NR2 can be handy for attenuating clicks, scraches & pops, ect. |

You can get a stand-a-lone phono pre-amps from Radio Shack and other electonic supply sources. Feed the soundcard's line-input from a line level output. typlically RCA jacks are -10dbv. (unbalanced line level) Many headphone amps are looking for a 8-ohm load and not compatable |
