Hi, this is my first post so hello everyone. I am basically a Soundforge novice and I need some help with volume levels on a DJ mix before I can commit it to CD. I have a 3 turntable setup through a 3 channel mixer. I am very experienced at mixing and setting levels so my final recordings are usually good enough to leave alone. However, last night I did a back 2 back mix with my flatmate and the levels aren't as uniform this time. In fact the loudest section is quite a lot louder than the quietest. What I want to know, is what is the best way to get all sections of the mix at reasonably the same volume? I realise that this may be quite difficult as in effect you are tampering with different sections of a single wave file. Also, do you have any recommendations for making the CD sound more analogue like and warm. My vinyl sounds like a CD! Thanks in advance for any help. |

Normalising will sort out the variation in levels, but if you have a later version of SF, you might prefer the results from Wave Hammer. In earlier versions try the compression facility. Use one of the EQ facilities to take the brightness off the top end, or Smooth/Enhance. You'll find the Preview useful in both of the above. The default setting doesn't preview much of the file before it loops back, but you can change it. (Options, Preferences, Previews) Useful when tweaking EQ especially. |

Hi I'm a novice Sound Forge Studio 6.0 user who DJ mixes and wondered inf you might be able to give me some advise. I cannot seem to monitor my mixes into SFS 6.0 at a listenable volume without clipping occuring. The only was is to have the level from my mixer (that goes into my soundcard) so low that I cannot monitor it through the speakers which means I can only hear my mix through the headphones which is awful. Any idea how I can get round. My setup: Sound Forge Studio 6.0 Compaq Evo n610c Technics SL1200 Mk 2 Gemini UMX-5 mixer Denon PMA 250UK amplifier Any advise would be appreciated. Bonheur |
