Thanks for the info Peter. Also, I do wish you and your R & D team much success in the future. As many others would agree, I hope that the same creative forces that earned ACID,Vegas,Sound Forge, CD Architect and all the other AV software in the SOFO family, such praise and recognition over the years, will be on board with Sony to continue with the development of these professional tools for the audio-visual community.

Seriously? ReWire in 4.0c? I think this may be the first time that Sofo has put a new feature in Acid in a '.x' revision.
IF this is correct, then I'm upgrading to 4.0, no questions asked. Reason 2.5 is just INSANE, and I'd spend the $$$ to upgrade Acid if I could use the two together...

(crossing my fingers!)
David.

I'm really happy!
Thanks for this great info. I really hope the problem with rgcAudio z3ta+ is fixed in Acid 4 now, I'm still waiting to test this VSTi within Acid.

I think Iacobus is on the something here--it all adds up. New regime, new influx of cash, new hires.

And they are TOTALLY sick of hearing how Acid won't be taken seriously without ReWire, something Rimas obviously did not support.

Acid needs a jump to 5.0 and ReWire NOW. With Project 5 yet another tough customer to battle, Acid can't wait to step up to the plate.

So I take Iacobus's mad cackle quite seriously--crazy? Like a fox.

Now THAT'S what I want to hear! I haven't upgraded Acid to 4.0 yet (I have Acid Pro 2 & Music 3), as it didn't provide me with the extra functionality that I need...

Mark my words-- ReWire will change that.

Added to that-- SoFo sent out that e-mail a few weeks ago, with the $99 upgrade to Acid 4 through the end of the month...

David.

You didn't need bus tracks? (A feature exclusive to 4.0.) Check them out when you upgrade to 4.0.

For example, you no longer have to add/copy volume envelopes to tracks just to fade them as a group. All you have to do is assign desired tracks to a certain bus, then add a volume envelope to that bus track and fade. Very cool.

And you'll be able to use them with...ooo...er...I'd better shut up now... :o)

Props to everyone who joined the ReWire army and marched to victory against the slings and arrows of the bloviating bastions of Buinevicius' brigandry! Or so it would appear...

Nope, not particularly. I mean, sure, it would be convienient... but is THAT worth upgrading for? Not really, I'm afraid. I can still do it the long way when I need to...
As for the other features-- VSTi's I handle in Sonar w/ a wrapper (which is ReWired of course-- so it hooks into Reason very nicely), I don't need to output 5.1 mixes right now... and when I do, it will probably be from within Vegas anyway... etc.

HOWEVER, what Acid DOES offer better than anyone else is the ability to loop. It's much more messy (IMHO) in Sonar, and looping is one of my very few complaints with Reason... they use .rex2 instead of .wav files, it's counter-intuitive, it doesn't automatically keep in key, and you have to open up a new Dr. Rex with each and every loop you want to use. Use an older machine (like I am), create a Malstrom (or two, or three... ;) and a few loops players, and your options become pretty darn limited.

Acid makes looping easy. Without Rewire, all we're doing, however, is playing audio Mad Libs. 'In order to finish a song, first you must export your ____ (file type) from ____ (Program name), open them in _____ (another program name) to trim them when necessary, set the key, etc., then import the _____ (file type) into _____ (master audio application) and mix with the rest of the ____ (file types).'

Or, we could just have Rewire--' Open Acid. Open Reason. Create music using loops AND original pieces. Render when finished.'

Which do you prefer?

David.

Your telling me it was a pain to have to move files from one app to another but having to "fade out" a number of tracks was tolerable? Bus tracks have automatable fx too btw. To each his own I guess.

I'm sure Iacobus would agree with me in saying that if anyone were holding out on upgrading to Acid 4.0[C] this would DEFINITELY be the right time...(wink) ;)

bus tracks is a great bonus, but rewire gives us reason.
i would love to have acid 4.0 with rewire in the next couple of days.

Hm, Rimas in charge, no ReWire though users were clamoring for it in droves and lack of it hurt sales badlyand caused defections to ReWired apps.

Rimas gonzo, ReWire magically appears in 6 weeks. Yeah, he musta been a HUGE supporter. Gimme a break.

All Rimas has been saying for the last 6 months is how his "vision" is much greater than mere desktop audio and basically what a pain in the ass it's been trying to run a competitive consumer audio shop, and how great it'll be to get rid of it. He's practically drooling over government and educational contracts involving industrial IT. The man had no stomach for the product, and no vision for it. And oversaw a near crash-and-burn of the product in shipping 4.0 way before it was cooked. What a hero.

New leader, new vision, new ReWire. 'Nuf said.

You over simplify and imply too much based upon you opinions and guesses.

You are wrong.

I use Acid as a strictly multy track recorder for my band, and even our Bass player can figure it out! ...but latly we found ways to use looped guitar and bass lines we recorded in ways that you couldnt tell it was a loop, (seemless riffting with no mistakes), and hearing rewire support makes this a Music tool that every musition should have even if they dont intend to loop, ...Keep up the Great work! now how the Heck are we to wait till June 1st>? guess we could clean out the garbage on the studio floor ..that could take a weak or two

Absolutely! If Rewire is actually included in an update (as oppposed to an upgrade), this would certainly serve as the highest benchmark for ANY developer and perhaps the greatest demonstration of a company listening to its customers!

Peter, I love you :D

seriously, Acid 4 has EVERYTHING I need to work properly.
Whatever people say, it's the most creative audio softwre i've ever seen until now. After 30 min of usage, i was able to work without thinking: "where is this function?", "how I can do that?". Why? because Acid is like NO other audio app, it's based on creation/expression, not on 'powerful features' (i do NOT say acid is not powerful) that need a PhD to work with.

Regars,
jam

A post-traumatic joy-induced laugh like that can only mean Sony bought Propheads, too, and is giving away free Prescott-fueled workstations with every $29.95 copy of Racid 1.0. Sony, no baloney.

Actually, mp3 save was added to ACID for the 1.0f revision. Still, it is rare that a feature this cool slides into a letter update.
