Or is there a way to convert .rm/.ram to something period via sound forge? Answers are appreciated very much. Thank you in advanced.

Provided you've something on your PC that can play the rm/ram files (Real Player, usually) then the answer is yes.

Bearing in mind that SF is a wave file editor, that is what it'll record in, so you'll end up with a wave file which you can then save in any of SF's available formats.

Set the recording control in Windows to record the output of your sound card, then set up an appropriate "new" file and record. Play back your Real files and they'll be recorded in real time (pardon the pun.)

Not as slick and neat as some solutions, maybe, but it will certainly work!

Phil- That's the only solution I could think of as well, but I wonder how much is lost by the end of that process. It seems a little like recording from 1/4" tape to CD, then to cassette. Or maybe I'm way off. ;-)

Any thoughts or knowledge?

Any loss of quality by using this method is probably negligible compared to the double compression that results from encoding to .rm and then to .mp3. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. Just make sure you don't record system sounds such as the "ding: you have email" sound while you're doing it.

There are several programs that can convert rm files.
dbpower, streambox or check the shareware sites.

I use Streambox Ripper 2.009 which can rip rm files from the server, but it is hard to find because RealNetworks hunts any reference to the program.

Unfortunately all known programs require RealPlayer to be installed :-(

"Unfortunately all known programs require RealPlayer to be installed :-("

that is teh ass-bite, is it not?

for this reason, nothing 'Real' exists in my universe.

if audio proof of the existence of a 5th Beatle existed only in .rm format, sadly, it would go unheard by me...

edit: no, here's how u really do it - #1 take a poop. #2 take a poop ON TOP of the previous pile of poop. #3 you're done!

lol sry
