Trying to record some vocals uisng an M-Audio Duo connected via USB to ACID 4.0b. Records OK, but can't monitor my singing whilst doing the recording which makes it difficult. M-Audio people suggest I use Cakewalk which has Direct Monitoring. IS there something I need to do to switch this on in ACID? Any ideas ? Paulie |

ACID does not support software monitoring. Vegas 4.0 does. Peter |

I would suggest a different soundcard. Most have direct monitoring. The duo doesn't allow direct monitoring while overdubbing. I'll never be able to figure out why they made it that way. |

That's mostly because USB 1.1 just can't handle dual 24-bit/96 kHz stereo streams. (Maybe mono, but I'm not sure.) It probably could be written into the Duo's drivers, but you wouldn't be able to use that bit-depth and sample rate, especially in stereo. You could use a mixer and output vocals from it to the Duo, then output the Duo in standalone mode and use its S/PDIF as a master in a sync situation to a soundcard with S/PDIF input, like the Audiophile 2496. You'd then output the Audiophile to the mixer and monitor via the mixer's control room feature while recording via S/PDIF. Kinda funky, but it'd work. This, of course, would necessitate another audio interface/soundcard and a mixer. :o( Iacobus |
