Subject:Can't save 24 bit audio files in Sound Forge 6???

I am getting an error message akin to - you can't save the file in the specified format - or something like that when I try saving a 24 bit recording that is 2 or 3 hours long. I have plenty of space on my hard drive - 20 gigs. And I have 1 gig of ram. I am running windowsXP pro operating system. I can save the file at 16bit 44hertz successfully though. Does anyone have a clue as to what might be the issue?

Thanks so much,
Jeremy

24-bit is probably putting you over the riff (.wav) byte limit. Try .w64 or .pca.

I didn't know there was a file size limit to wav files. Is that true????

Thanks,
Jeremy

RIFF files use a 32-bit value to represent the size of the entire file in bytes. That means 4 GB max, but realistically 2 GB since so many legacy applications treat it as a signed value.

Is there any loss in using pcs or w64 file types for saving a 24 bit audio file?

No. w64 is uncompressed and pca is lossless.

Would there be any reason to choose w64 format over pca or vice versa? I am also assuming that I could covert both formats to wav after I have converted to 16 bit....
