what is the best way to save imported tapes. can I save them individually if I import them as a single file or do I have to sit by my PC and save them 1 at a time as as each track plays

Its usually very easy to split one long recording into several tracks. After recording the entire side of the tape you can set markers at the beginning of each song. If you have the full version of SoundForge there is an automatic function for this (although it doesn't work well if the tape is noisy) and you can then change markers to regions and export the regions as separate files in a few mouse clicks. If you have the XP/Studio version then you can still set the markers manually, double-click between markers to highlight that song, Ctrl-C to copy, Ctrl-E to paste to a new file, and save each of these new files as a track.

Thanks for the info. I posted markers and converted them to regions. That was that, I was lost and would be most grateful if you could expand on your comment "A FEW MOUSE CLICKS" I did as you suggested and copied and pasted them but your comment about mouse clicks suggests an easier way............. Sorry about that!

Under Tools, click Export Regions. You can specify a base name for the files. By default, these files will be named with the base name and the start & end time of the region. Personally i prefer to use the "short" names which is just the base name and a counter. Select the directory you want the files saved in and go.
