Hey has anyone ever heard of or use the iZotope mastering plug-in with ACID? or Sound forge studio? It looks pretty sweet, but I was wondering if anyone else had experience with this program, and how it stacks up against others. It has a lot of facets, and I guess that's where my confusion comes from. Also, if anyone figured out how to use it in Sound Forge Studio, let me know.

I have Ozone and like it quite a bit. It uses a lot of CPU power so is best used as a Mastering tool (some people have tried to use it as an insert effect). There are other mastering tools as well... many people love T-Racks and other swear by Waves. People have also said good things about the PSP vintage warmer. Voxengo has been getting some good reviews on boards as well for their compressor and EQ. A good way to check them out is to download demos and see which ones you like because it all boils down to taste.

Take Care

Izotope Ozone is a great tool. I don't think it will work with Sound Forge Studio, though because I don't think SF Studio will let you use Directx plugins.

Can anyone confirm?

I also have Ozone and I concur it's a great Mastering tool, my only complaint is the GUI doesn't fit on the screen in Acid at 800x600. Some may question why I use such low resolution, but hey it's my preference, anyway when using it Acid I just use higher res. I also have the fore mentioned T-Racks, Waves Mastering Suite, and Vintage Warmer, so I've got a world of options, I regularly use them all. I suppose if I had to make a choice, was only able to get one I'd choose...ahh...I can't do it... oh well get em all.

Sound Forge Studio it doesn't offer "DirectX® plug-in support"

800x600? sounds like someone needs to upgrade that 14" monitor. hehe

Is T-racks, waves mastering suite, and vintage warmer all software or hardware?

Software. Waves & T-racks both are full mastering suites. Vintage Warmer is just as the name implies: a plugin that can give your tracks some "warmth" but its only one component of what is considered a mastering suite.

I've been wondering about 'mastering' - So far I've been using a chain of effects (WaveHammer set to 'Master for 16bit', Paragraphic EQ rolling off the bass end at ~40Hz, and rgcAudio High Frequency Stimulator set to 'subtle enhance'). This gives me a nice signal level, and sounds better (to me) than the tracks my friend processed woth T-Racks.

Anyone else cheap like me? :) Any other mastering chains?? (I use SoundForge 5.0 for these tasks)

john..
