System: Win98se/750mhz/256RAM

I just installed Acid Pro 4. I can preview the wav files that came on the content CD by clicking on them but when I drag them to the time line I get nothing at all - no sound nor wav peaks - actually other than the file name on the left side of the screen, the track is empty. I can drag a finished .acd file to the time line and it shows up and plays just fine. Any idea what dumb thing I am doing wrong? Thanks for any help.

I hate to ask, so forgive me...

But you ARE putting them into the project, then painting them onto the track, right? It sounds like you're loading the loop, then leaving it as a blank track.

My apologizes for insulting you if I'm wrong!
David.

All you've done so far is tell acid which sound file to use in the track, but you haven't actually created anything. After dragging the file to the track, you must paint the track to place the sound sample where you want it on the timeline. For example, if your sound file was a downbeat, you could paint one note's worth of it at the beginning of each measure. If your sound sample is an 8 beat riff that you want to have play from measures 17 to 32, paint on that track from measures 17 to 32 and you'll see it drawn four times. It will play "looped", that is, it will repeat as many times as necessary to fill up the space you paint. If you're using proper loops, ACID will automatically adjust the timing to match the tempo of the file to the tempo of the whole song.

If you're not painting them in, and especially if you're using longer one-shots, here's a quick trick: Turn on snapping, click on the paint tool, then hold down Ctrl and click at the start of the track (where you now don't see any waves). Voila! The whole track is painted in, aligned at the start of the track. I usually select all the waves I want to use in a mix in Explorer, right click to add them to the project, then paint them all in quickly this way.

Thanks everyone. I said 'new user' I should have put that in bold print. Anyway, you all were correct. I was loading them into the project but I didn't grasp what exactly was meant by painting. I am a happy camper now...I just wish I had some musical talent.
