I need some urgent advice. I urgently need to record some mixes onto audio CD from my technics sl200 mk2/gemini umx mixer set up for someone who wants to give regular DJ gig (never had to bother before strangely enough). I've been told the quickest way is to buy a cheap minidisc recorder and playback into my Musicmatch software then burn a cd. But through work I have Compaq Evo N610c laptop with 30GB hard disk, 512RAM which I think would be better option to buy Sound Forge Studio and use that. I'm trying the demo but it does not allow me to burn a cd so I can't tell how good/bad the CD is. Help, can anyone advise me. I'm thinking of just buying the minidisc and be finished but I like to audio processing features in Sound Forge Studio as I mix a wide range of music, from drum n bass, to broken beats, hip-hop & house. Is it worth buying Sound Forge Studio (I can't afford the full version atm) for this?? Thanks in advance. |

Keep in mind that with a minidisc recorder you're limited to making minidiscs. This is fine if you know that everyone you want to make discs for has a minidisc player, but CDs are much more widely used and just about everyone has a CD player. On the other hand, SoundForge only burns Track-At-Once CDs, which may be fine for your purposes. The limitation of this method is that it is impossible to eliminate the two second silent gap between songs. Of course, you could always use SoundForge for the recording and editing of the songs, then use whatever software came with your burner to create Disc-At-Once CDs. |

But after I've recorded onto minidisc, can't I play into my laptop (Musicmatch) and then burn a CD? I don't know what the quality would be like though. |

You could do the same thing without the minidisc. Just record directly into the PC without using the minidisc inbetween. |

OK I bought Sound Forge Studio 6.o yesterday by am having major trouble getting it to work. I can't get Sound Forge 6.0 to record any sound. I have a Compaq Evo N610c laptop, Gemini UMX-7 mixer, Denon integrated amplifier and Technical SL1200 mk2. Having read the notes it should simply be a case of taking a stereo-out (master) from the mixer into the soundcard line. I have to a headphone & microphone port on the front of my laptop and have been connect a Y cable coming out the mixer with a 1/8" end into the microphone port. Is this right? I'm also getting confused on how to adjust the volume settings! Help! |
