I received a copy of ACID XPress 3.0 as part of the "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" DVD. At an uninitiated first look it is obvious this is a very powerful tool with great potential for creating jam tracks and the like for my personal use. I have no experience with ACID although I have a modest amount of experience with audio editing and MIDI set up. What would you recommend to an absolute beginner to get started with ACID and creating jam tracks. The initial tutorial presupposes a level of understanding I don't as yet possess. Many thanks to anyone who can help. |

The best thing to do is to go to http://www.acidplanet.com/tools/8packs and download this weeks "8Pack". This is a ready made song/project including the loops (sound files) that go with it. Not only with this give you a few sample loops to play with, but you'll be able to see a completed project "in action", as it were. You'll be able to see how someone else set up a song, tinker with it, disect it, etc. Then you'll get a feel for how ACID works. There's a new 8Pack each week and they're free! |

This is probably the perfect program for a beginner given it's intuitive layout. If you have some MIDI know-how, I'd look into 4.0 in the near future. As for a starting point, I'd take Chienworks advice and use premade loops to make a song so you can get a feel for what you can and can't do. |
