From what I've seen Sonic Foundry often show promotional materials relating to acid in a concert setting. But is it possible to use Acid for live performance? Has anyone done it? I am worried about a few things: Acid freezes once in a while. Totally hangs up. Projecting video may not be an option(?). To awkward to load and paste loops into acid without stuttering, etc.....I think I would be too scared to use Acid live...it would be a total riot starter. I tried a demo version of Live! and it seems to be much better suited to concerts. Or maybe Reason? I hear they demonstrated it live at NAMM last winter. But Acid...? Any thoughts or experiences you can share? Peter. http://soundsichiban.com |

ACID is first and foremost a production tool, not a live tool. It'd be like using Sound Forge or Vegas live. Ableton's Live or Propellerhead's Reason might help you out here. HTH, Iacobus |

awefull answer iacobus!! just because you havent figures out how to use acid live doesnt mean it cant be. i know of several people that use it live quite easily and efficiently. i have used it it a few live shows the same as using a d.a.t. track. and i could loop a bar at the end of the track to fade out or jam with the "preview" fader and random samples. a dj friend of mine does it almost the same way. he keeps a beat running and fades in "previews" from the explorer. he can just double click and pop up a new track drop the volume and pen it in place and fade it in. he keeps 5 or 6 fx busses open so if he wants to he can just assign that track to the effect. he has saved "songs" that he keeps loops that work together and all the fx all ready to go. its actually very easy to do live and is very cool to see. though its not made for live its easily adaptable and easy to do. iacobus, expand your creativity dude! you need to make the tools work for you not let the tools dictate what you can do! mz |

It's not an "awefull" answer, just a precautious one. ACID is a production tool, just as Vegas and Sound Forge are. It was never marketed as a live tool. That's really a fact, just as I know there are those who are using ACID in just such a live situation. I salute those users who use ACID live wholeheartedly. I personally would have no problems using it live. But remember who users blame when things go south. (Hint: It's not themselves.) Let me rephrase: Go ahead and use ACID live if you want. Just be aware ACID was originally designed as a production tool, not a live tool. Things can go quite smoothly, or they can go kablooey. This is not really placing the responsiblity on ACID, but on computers in general. Lots of things can go wrong besides software failing. Iacobus |

There is always room for improvement. Look at sonar and project 5. Both are being given a new audio engine that allows it to be used in a live manner. Its toooo much for me to explain but look it up on the cakewalk web site and take a look a project 5 for the explanation. Sonar will get these improvements in 3.0. We've got to throw away the old mentality of upgrade policy from the old sofo ways. You've got sonys money so there really [hopefully] is no excuse anymore for a upgrade like from acid 1 to 2. 2 to 3 was a bit better. 3 to 4 was great [minus bugs]. 4 to 5??? We'll see. All hail rewire! And just in case I've got sonar to back me up. Ed. |
