I know Acid 4 has midi, but to what extent can it be used instead of an app like Logic - i.e. can one move notes around (up and down in pitch, forward or backwards in time), can you copy and paste notes, change instruments, really work on arrangements, copying verses, choruses etc ... thanks for any guidance |

Midi in ACID is still in its infancy, and it's the only thing in ACID that is not easy and very un-intuitive in its usage. don't expect the functionality and ease of use that you can expect from seasoned Midi apps like Cubase or Logic. so, if Midi is your only concern ACID is not the tool for you .... yet. this is of course very much imho, i'm sure others disagree. |

One thing that must be noted is that MIDI must fit into ACID's already-existing paradigm—and that's loop sequencing. Basically, that means that any MIDI track can be worked with just like any other digital audio track—loop, copy, paste, chop, whatever. If you want to create a MIDI file from scratch, ACID can do that, but not as elegantly as ATP noted. It should handle existing MIDI tracks with aplomb, however. That's probably why users own SONAR and ACID, or Logic and ACID, etc. HTH, Iacobus |

One thing that cannot be repeated enough. ACID should not be mistaken for a standard MIDI sequencer. There is necessarily a level of abstraction between the MIDI information and what one hears--here's a little blurb about how ACID handles MIDI differently than standard sequencers: http://www.sonicfoundry.com/support/SupportProduct.asp?FamilyID=2&Family=ACID&TopicID=2&DetailID=1553 HTH, Joel |

This is the thing about ACID that bugs me, why do you have to create and save a separate midi file each time. To me it seems very illogical that the midi information isn't just saved with the project file. I really hope that SF add either Rewire (best option Imo) or get a proper midi editor in ACID because as it is the midi is really just a toy. The bar is being raised all the time with Software and sadly it seems that SoFo's ACID is slipping (in relation to other products). I don't wanna seem like I am bashing ACID cos I think it's a great product but it could be so so much better. Cheers TS |

To me it seems very illogical that the midi information isn't just saved with the project file. << It actually is saved with the project. We only write out to the MIDI file if you tell us to from the MIDI track propertied page. We are completely non-destructive to the MIDI file associated to the track. ACID has a one file per track. A file is required for this model, that is why we have a MIDI file created on New MIDI track. This is how ACID works and always has worked. Peter |
