I have downloaded acid pro 4.0 demo (build317). But when I have installed it and tries to run it the errormessage "Unhandled application error" pops up and the splash window locks up in the middle of my screen. When i try to close this window a new message comes up saying "a crash has occured in acid40.exe" The same thing happens with 3.0g demo. I have tried almost every solution in this forum, but none have worked. I have tried installing it many times. I have no other music programs on my computer.

Spec:
WinXP Pro
ASUS A7v8x Motherboard
Athlon XP2000 CPU
512 MB ram
Soundblaster 1024 soundcard
Geeforce 4 TI graphics card
Every driver on my computer is completely up to date.

I take it you've tried the easiest ways:

-Turn off everything in the Systray and any other background-running apps like antivirus and instant messengers.

-Turn down video acceleration.

-Tried any of the tips at MusicXP.net.

-Used the "less is better" philosophy. (Keeping hardware and software installed to an absolute minimum; use only what you absolutely need.)

In addition, have you tried a brute force method, such as reformatting your system?

Yes, I have tried these methods, except for formatting the system. I dont care to do that because of a single program. But none of the other methods have helped.

How long has it been since the system's been formatted? Over time, residue can build up in your system (even in Windows XP) and cause mysterious problems or errors. If nothing else works, I would format.

Try one more thing: Reboot your system, and just before the XP logo, repeatedly press F8 and enter Safe Mode. Try uninstalling ACID from there, then reboot into normal mode and reinstall.
