VV3 LE Rendering Problems

I have Vegas Video LE Version 3.0c build 139. I purchased the MPEG1 and MPEG2 plugins online. I am having problems with my computer locking up during the render process.
I have already captured a file into VV3LE in avi format and preformed some minor editing on it. I select the portion of the clip I want to render to mpeg1 format ... the process begins ... and some time during the render the computer will stop responding and freeze. Usually after several reboots it will finally render the clip. I have tried with different size clips ... doesn't seem to have any affect. The render process is the only time I encounter these hard locks.
I have other video editing software that goes through the same type process ... it works without any problems. The problem with them are that they are not near the quality that I get from Vegas Video.
Has anyone else encountered this problem? Does anyone have any suggestions? Please help...

Download and install the Vegas 4.0b update (demo is fine). This will update the MPEG encoder to the most current shipping version...and it'll likely solve your problem. Your encodes will look better too-

Installing the 4.0, update over the 3.0 LE is okay? Or ... are you saying to download the demo and install the update?

I just don't want loose the plugins that I purchased online?

Install the 4.0.b demo alongside 3.0 LE.

I took your advice ... so far so good! I have rendered about 4 or 5 files in a row without any lockups. Thanks for the help.

Would it be safe to now remove the demo ... or should I just leave it?

I found one other thing that might have contributed some to my lockup. My video drive was slave to my master drive on the same channel. So ... I moved the video drive to the secondary channel. I figured it definately would not hurt.

I have Vegas 3.0 as well (but the full version) and I wanted to know if it will be possible to just update the MPEG1 and MPEG2 drivers only not downloading the 4.0b demo? Will Sonic Foundry make an update to Vegas 3.x to include the better plugins?

Thanks.

Install the V4 demo and MPEG gets updated for all SF apps. MPEG, MP3 and AC-3 are all shared bewteen apps.

I should have asked before. But does this also apply to VideoFactory v2 as well? Meaning, this will update the MPEG drivers? For example, if there is an update to the Vorbis Ogg driver will it automatically update any and all applications installed that use this?

I guess I need to know which items are shared by applications.

Thanks.
