Subject:I'm New, but Trying.. Need Help

Ok. I create a beat on FruityLoops. I then imported it to Acid, to put instruments to it. I actually got as far aas to record from my Midi Keyboard, onto Acid, but all I keep hearing are piano sounds. Yet I'm using horns or strings on my Keyboard. Is there a way to change the instrument? Or maybe, use the instruments I'm using on my keyboard? Also, how can I sync them together so when I want to record it will record in real time as opposed to me guessing when to start? The smarta**es will say, use the manual, but the manual is difficult to follow at times. A helpful experienced hand is always welcomed here.... *thanks* |

Maybe you don't want to actually record MIDI? Are you trying to record the sounds your keyboard itself actually produces? If so, you'll have to record digital audio, which is totally different from MIDI (which is just a set of instructions). For any case in recording, you'll basically want to start a measure or two ahead of where you intend to actually record. You can even use the Loop Region to do multiple takes and bounce down the take you like. HTH, Iacobus |

Yes I want to record the sounds off my keyboard. I cannot find the instruments on acid to use. So it's pretty frustrating at the moment. And you said, to start recording two measures ahead? Will that sync everything together? Acid Pro is much more difficult than FruityLoops... lol |

Definitely record digitally. Run your keyboard's output into your mixer (or directly into the line-in on your sound card if you don't have a mixer). There should be no guessing as to when to start. You should be able to hear your beat and add your keyboard melodies according as the beat will playback while you are record on a new track... |

Adding to what Gape said, it's helpful to have some rhythm when recording digital audio. You might want to practice your take before attempting a recording. Also, you can set the Loop Region over an area and turn loop playback on. (Q is the keyboard shortcut.) When you record, the track will record as usual but you'll have the benefit of having the one section of your project looping over and over so you can do multiple takes and bounce down the take you want. Check out p. 122 of the full ACID 4.0 manual for details. You might also have to set up your soundcard to monitor input while playing your project back. Consult this KB article for more info. Ok. I have gotten that far as to be able to record with my keyboard, but haven't figured out how to play my original beat while recording. Also, it seems that I can only import files as wavs... in order to hear them playback on Acid. |
