Hi,

I've gone from fruityloops to ACID and i am not familiar with the layout...On first opening the program i get an example piece of music and i notice that all the different instruments used are listed at the left hand side. I know how the piano roll works....I am baffled...I cant find how to preview and select an instrument I wish to use...Please help me. Im sure its very basic but I cant see anywhere what I'm lookin for.

Thanks in advanc

Ever think of taking a look at the manual?

Eddie,

While Acid and Fruity certainly share some similarities in the piano roll, you'll find that the rest of their methodologies are a bit different. The upper left region of the Acid interface is the channel strip (or bank), not the instrument list. Each channel strip represents a different media file, be it WAV, MP3, MID, WMA, etc. You can place media into the bank by clicking and dragging it from the file explorer window below the timeline. Then paint on the timeline where you want the representative media files to "fire". With MIDI, it's a bit more complicated. After dragging a MIDI file into the bank, it needs to be plugged into something. It will default to whatever device is set in your preferences, but I presume you'd like to use a VSTi. In this case, go to the lower right-hand region of the interface and push the "Add Synth" button. It looks like a couple of piano keys. The VSTi list will come up. Select the instrument you wish to use and press "OK". It's own buss will appear. No go to the channel with the MIDI file and route it to your added VSTi (the button again looks like a couple of piano keys). That should be it. I'm sure you'll have some more questions after this, but don't hesitate to write back here.

HTH,
Nick
