Subject:How do you force a song ending?

I notice that a song ends after about 3 seconds or so of the last loop. Now, I am also doing midi songs in a non-traditional (?) way using just midi song parts (bass part, guitar part, etc.). I paint each instrument across on its own track so it looks like a one shot. I found this the easiest way to input the midi song from another program into acid while keeping all its properties intact. I know it's probably the wrong way to go about it but it works for me. The only thing is that the song keeps on going for about 30 seconds after the last part. How can I force Acid to accept where a song ends? I tried the 'fit to time' but that didn't do anything. Thank you for any help you all can offer. |

Have you tried setting the project loop region? |

No I haven't. Sorry to ask a dumb question but how do you do that? I don't see how to do this in the help files. Thanks for your help. |

I believe this behavior was by design. Just hit your keyboard's spacebar to stop playback. (The cursor will go back to where you started.) Use Enter to stop playback at the cursor (essentially 'pausing'). Use SHIFT+SPACEBAR to start the project from its beginning. HTH, Iacobus |

That I do know. :D The reason I want a definite song ending is to render the finished product to CD. Can't have 30 second gaps like that between songs, y'know? ;) |

Are these gaps showing up in your renders? Try this: Turn ripple edits on if they aren't. (CTRL+L is the toggle.) Using the Time Selection Tool in conjunction with the Loop Region, select the gap of silence at the end of your project, then press DELETE. Save and render and see if the gap still exists. Actually I haven't even tried to render yet because of this problem. I didn't want to waste CDs. ;) I'll keep this in mind if I have this problem when I get to that step. Is there a way to fix this so that I can have the song with a definite ending point before I go to the rendering step? |

You can set the Loop Region over the entire project and render using the "render loop region only" option when rendering. This will definitely ensure that anything within the Loop Region gets rendered only. You can also use a digital audio editor of some sort like Sound Forge to delete the extraneous data at the end. However, I'd only recommend it when working with lossless formats such as WAV or SoFo's own PCA format. (Saving a compressed, lossy format over and over compresses the audio even more.) That sounds like it should solve the problem... thanks!! I'll try it tonight and see if it works. Thanks again to everyone for your help. Rock on! :) |
