To be fair, occasionally they do have a big prize, like the one for the Stockhausen contest. I remember there being a big prize for the ACID + Flash contest as well.

stockhausen: damn - sorry i missed that one. looks like phun. (and if those are the 'clarified' instructions, wth did the original ones look like?! :P) that guy is a trip...

edit: hey i still have 30 days! let's see.. figure 29 days to figure out wth they are talking about, then 1 day to compose, mix, master and submit?! =)

It actually isn't too hard. Most of the work is comprised of applying a recognizable pitch to the samples that require them. The fun part is when you get to mangle your samples once you get the "stretchedx8" and regular formulas done. >:o)
