(fixed!) PluginPac FrameServer 1.5.1 released.

satish wrote on 4/24/2003, 7:23 PM
Changes...

1. Added Premiere plugin for FrameServer
2. Added MediaStudio Pro plugin for FrameServer
3. Added stats
4. Added PCM audio save to signpost feature
5. optimized for performance

Using the PCM audio save feature you can now do two pass audio encoding with popular encoders. Also you can use this for increased compatibility with apps that dont recognise the frameserved audio.

Please uninstall any earlier versions of Frameserver installed.

Get it from http://www.debugmode.com/pluginpac/frameserver.php

Thanks to DDogg again for his immense help with suggestions and testing the FS in a myraid suite of apps.

Thanks

A couple of things to note:

1> Frameserving is now about twice as fast when serving to CCE from Vegas.

2> Try to use the ACM audio first ("write audio .." Un-Checked) as this method actually serves the audio via ACM as well as video with no intermediate files needed. The new alternative method ("write audio .." Checked) just about guarantees transparency and should work with anything. The only downside is the audio is actually written to the signpost file. A long time-line is going to take a few minutes to finish this operation. Also, the signpost file can become quite large. An 80 minute DV source will have about a gig of audio written to disk using the alternative audio mode.

3> All flavors of CCE (see 3b) will need the alternative audio mode when serving from Vegas, Premiere and Ulead Media Studio Pro 7 (if audio is checked in CCE).

3b> CCE 2.50 does not work with any audio at anytime and will crash. This is a well known problem of this version of CCE as has nothing to do with the NLE or Frameserving software. Workaround by encoding audio as a separate mp2 and use TMPG Tools or BBMplex to mux final MPG. Make SURE audio is UNCHECKED in CCE 2.50 or it will crash!

4> ProCorder multi-pass VBR needs alternate when served from Vegas, but single pass CBR does not. Premiere and Ulead Media Studio Pro 7 version works fine with all ProCorder methods and does not require alternate audio.

5> TMPG works fine in any mode without alternate audio mode so long as audio has not been accessed by preview playing. If it has FS must be restarted in Vegas. With Premiere or MSP7 you can restart encoding at anytime with out the need to restart the FS.

6> FS works fine with Avisynth 2.08 and 2.51 both with and without the special audio mode. Use the AviSource command to open the signpost AVI file from the FS'er.

7> FS works well with AVI2SVCD for the automatic generation of SVCD images ready to burn to disk.

I'll add more later if needed.

Well, something wrong there :(. Have the "Unable to create signpost Avi file bla-bla-bla" message after frameserving start. Both in Vegas and UMSP 6.5. One my friend have this error too. Any suggestions?

this version is broken, satish is working on it
DDogg wrote on 4/24/2003, 11:16 PM
It is fixed and up. <cough>, the rascal did not consult his tester before releasing :-)

The one that's up there now has a fssetup.exe date/time of 4/24/2003 at 7:57PM. If that's the latest, I'm still getting the "unable to create signpost" error with "a necessary function has not been implemented".
Bill Ravens wrote on 4/25/2003, 12:03 AM
just downloaded....same here...still doesn't work
DDogg wrote on 4/25/2003, 12:30 AM
Yeah, it is having problems that were not there when I was testing. I think he had to do a lot of last minute work when a problem was found with large files.
I do have it working here, but It seems for first time use you must move the error and manage to check the audio box before killing the error. After that it seems to do ok. I am sure he will get it fixed soon. I know he is working on it now.

Is this with Vegas, or Premiere, or MSP?
roger_74 wrote on 4/25/2003, 3:22 AM
The 1.5 download is disabled at the moment, so I can't check it out yet. Two things I wanted in the previous version though was a minimize button and a restart button in the FS window.

Sorry for all the troubles. The issues have been sorted out and everything is working fine. Please get the latest download v1.5.1 from same URL.

Thanks

I just tried it with Premiere and it worked perfectly---did a convolution kernel in Premiere, rendered it then frame served it to Vegas. Great work Satish!

Satish,

When I installed the plug-in, it stopped VV3 from being able to capture from tape. The symptom was: it would start the capture, run the tape, and immediately return, saying no clips were captured. When I de-installed the plugin, capture started working again. I have Win2K and am using the Microsoft DV driver for capture from firewire. I have many other things on the computer, so it could be a conflict, but there was a clear "work/don't-work" relationship when I did this test. It is not a big deal for me, but if others report a similar problem, then let me know and I'll give you any system details you'd like to have from my system.

Thanks and regards for your work,
Don don-mcgee@att.net

I do not have the facility to test capture from tape, but there doesnt seem to be any relationship between a render plugin and capture from tape. Anyone from SoFo tech, can you please test this and see what's going on?

Thanks

I'm confused about the file type of the download. I get a .php which opens up MS homepublishing, which then gives error message that the file can't be opened.

Here's the URL: http://www.debugmode.com/bin/download.php?fssetup.zip
Here's the file: C:\Download\download.php

I found out when frameserving in win2k with CCE 267 everything seems to work
ok going from V-4 to CCE except if for some reason (being dumb) that the
frameserving menu is closed and then the CCE encoding is commenced a menu
pops up that says frameserving is not serving and the computer is hung up.
The menu will not close. Win2k pro. sp-3+.

I just double checked on V4.0B and had no problem with capture.
satish wrote on 4/25/2003, 7:03 PM
Yes, that is a known issue. If you close the Frameserver and still runthe target app you'll get this dialog which keeps on coming (depends on theapp though...). Please be careful. :)

Satish,

Will your plug-in ever allow VV to act as a frameserve receiver, e.g., be able to take dummy .m2v files into the time line?

Thanks,
Bob.

"Will your plug-in ever allow VV to act as a frameserve receiver, e.g., be able to take dummy .m2v files into the time line?"

Didn't we establish in a previous post you had mispoke and meant .D2V? I thought that was answered in an identical question in the other thread? Did you miss it? This is doable already but has nothing to do with Satish's outbound frameserver and IMO, is completely off topic here and shows some confusion. They are completely different subjects. I doubt Satish would even know what a D2v file is as it is used for serving deprotected VOB files, aka "ripping", but it can also be used for serving large Mpeg files for legit purposes. This is done via VFAPI. Do a search on that maybe?

rstein wrote on 4/26/2003, 9:38 PM
Dude, take a chill pill! I must have missed the answer to that question and your establishment of my misspeaking.

Thanks for the nice reply. Have a nice day.

Bob.

You're certainly welcome :) You too. In re-reading, my reply did come off different than than the way I intended. It was supposed to be quite direct, but really was not meant as mean spirited - which I see you might have taken it as. Sorry for that.
rstein wrote on 4/27/2003, 2:32 PM
No problem, Dogg. I had indeed missed that thread, which pointed to the doom9 site where you explicitly laid out some techniques. Between full time work and law school at night, it's easy for me to get behind or miss a lot in these threads. Probably easy for me to get a little to snippy myself. :)

Thanks for answering directly.

Bob.
