I'm looking to record some vocals and want to know what everyone's advice is on setting up a basic effects chains for vocals. Do you put compression first, etc.? Thanks. |

I'd use a popscreen, then the mic (or more than one mic), to the pre-amp to a compressor--mainly to make sure you're getting a consistent level, and don't clip at the converter (then optionally through an EQ, but preferrably not) to the soundcard. Use as little EQ as possible, since vocals are important in a mix and DSP is most noticeable on them. If you find that EQ is necessary after/during recording, you may want to find a mic with a pattern that matches the singer a bit better. Best of luck. Joel |

where can i get this pop filter plugin? hehe my vox for the most part look like this... sf track eq <> ultrafunk compressor (tweaked urei 1176 preset) and thats it. if i add verb of delay or whatever i tagg it on the end of the chain. i like dry crisp vox though. |
