***Sheesh!* All my new TRACKS end up in MyDocuments. I did what Md - Iacobus - kindly suggested (paste to follow) which works beautifully, UNTIL I quit the app and launch it next time -- then it's back to the default (of leaving things in MyDocs). I guess I could put my new projects in new folders, but I tend to forget: Is there a way to re-set the default once and for all? (P.S. Ditto to what someone else posted about too much silence at the ends of my songs. Is there a function I can use to signal "END OF SONG" or these puppies just end automatically?) (By the way, thanks to mD and others who've offered help!) *** Posted by: mD (Ignore This User) Date: 4/17/2003 2:29:41 PM Ahh, I think I know what's up... By default, every recording in every new project you start always defaults to your "My Documents" folder. You can get around this in two different ways: 1) Create a new project, open the Record dialog window and browse to a specific folder for recording and click OK. Do not start recording at this point. Instead, click Cancel. Then save the project with a title like, "Recording Template". Since ACID saves recording folder info along with the project, that same exact folder will be used for subsequent recording sessions later on, even when you close and then come back to that project. 2) You can also open a specific project and simply browse to a project-specific folder for recording. As I mentioned above, once you save your project, recording folder info is also saved. Once you close this project and come back to it later, the specific folder will automatically be used for recording. (You can use the "Make New Folder" button within the "Browse" function, or just create the folder beforehand and browse to it.) I mention the two techniques because some users like to start with a specific folder. (All a user has to do is open the "Recording Template" project and the specific folder will be available.) Others (me included) like to stick to a specific folder for a specific project for organization. HTH, Iacobus |

The recording folder is project-specific. I'll give an example: I have a project called, "Providence," and a project called, "Music for Married Couples." I have folders specific for each project named the same. Let's say I open "Providence" and want to do some recording. I open the Record window and browse to the specific folder for that project for recording and saving my takes into. (The name of the folder is also called, "Providence.") I record my material and close the Record window. I then save everything and close the project. I next open "Music for Married Couples" and do the same, recording into the project's recording folder of the same name. I then save and close this project. I then decide to go back to "Providence". When I open "Providence," I should have the same exact folder available for recording that I used before for this specific project. Definitely think about placing projects and any related material in project-specific folders. You'll thank yourself later as it'll end up being much more organized. There's no easy way to reset the default. You could probably have the "Recording Template" project open, check the "automatically open last project on startup" option under Options>Preferences and close ACID. The next time you go to open ACID, the recording template project should be opened too, along with recording folder info for that project. For the end of song silence, try turning on Ripple Edits (CTRL+L) and select the entire area of silence at the end of your project with the Time Selection Tool active and press Delete on your keyboard. Save and render and see if the silence still exists in the render. HTH, Iacobus |
