Can anybody recommend a good CD with tons of wonderful samples (WAVs) for recording?
Or maybe a URL with free downloadable snips of cool music/sound effects?

You probably already know about the free "Eight-packs" available each month from SonicFoundry, correct? Plus, SoFo has many samples of their retail disks online that I believe are available for use. Also, look at this site for some great samples and the chance to enter a contest to win more:
