Subject:Filtering the pieces

As my name implies, I'm a novice to Soundforge. I'm trying to filter out just a beat from a song but do not know where to start. There is a voice, guitar riffs, and other keyboard harmonic sounds. Yet I don't want all of these. Does Soundforge have a tool in order to reduce the levels of certain sounds or am I looking at the wrong program to begin with? Any suggestions? Thanks!

You're not going to have much success at all with any software or hardware. Once various sounds have been mixed together there is very litte that can be done to isolate them again.

The beat may be made up mostly of lower frequencies. Try using an EQ curve to enhance the lower end and reduce other frequencies. After this, a noise gate may help isolate the hits of the beats from the quieter sound inbetween the beats. Don't expect much though. At best, you may be able to make the beats a little louder and the surrounding music a little quieter.
