Hey there, I have an AIF file of a man stating people's names for a presentation. There is a little background noise in between the names I want to lower and make cleaner. Problem is when I try to run a few effects like Noise Gate, or Mute...it pops when it goes from some audio to nothing. I am a newbie to SF and just need a little guidance on how to drop audio levels smoothly in between the names being said without having that pop sound when the auido drops sharply. Thanks! |

A Gate would work, but it sounds like you need to slow down the attack rate. I prefer to use volume envelopes in Vegas, because you have total control of how fast and how much you want to bring the level of the noise inbetween the material you want. Totally gating out the noise makes you notice the silence too much and makes it sound very unnatural. |

Thanks guys, I need just a bit more help. I tried to increase the release rate, but it still pops, and the attack rate is as low as it can go. Is there a set number that works well in most cases? |

No the there is not a magic bullet. Every file usually needs to be tweaked individually. You may try using an expander. Which does not totally "slam the door" like a gate. Ultrafunk makes a nice gate/expander plug-in, download the demo and try it. |
