Whenever I go to open a project, there are two identical files to choose from. In other words, let's say I get a groove going and name it "FUNK IN A". I save it in my project file folder. When I come back to it, there are two. This is not a backup file(acd.bak), it is an exact duplicate. This gets quite confusing after several openings, as I have to choose which one has been most recently modified by comparing their size. It also turns a folder of 40 songs into a folder of 80 songs. I took the time to go through the folder and delete all the useless files, but now the few I have opened since are cloned again! Why is this happening?

I don't believe the operating system will let you have two files with identical names in the same directory. They must differ somehow or have different extensions.

Like I just explained, they are identical. They have the same name and extention.

Greetings fretless/uritrash,

Are you running Windows or Mac? If Windows, which version? If XP go to Control Panel>Folder Options>View tab and uncheck the box that says 'Hide extensions for known file types'.

If it's not an ACD-BAK file, then what is it? (Try what Spy suggested to find out.)

I think it is an ACD-BAK file, because as Kelly (Chienworks) said, duplicate files are not allowed in the same location or folder. If they have the same file name, then they must differ in file name extension, for example.

or he could have saved as a project file with embedded media.
