Okay, slowly but surely I'm getting there. Here's a new one, when I record my singing on one track to play with 12 others on a tune, it comes out with a slight delay so the timing is off or late. It's screwing up my harmonies and vocals etc... is this a memory thing? Here's my system:

pent II 266 mhz
20 gig HD
96 mb ram
windows me

Could be, depending on which version of ACID you're running. If it's ACID Pro 4.0, that system's a tad on the slow side. If you're using ACID 4.0, you might want to try the WDM driver model instead of ASIO; some vendors' ASIO drivers are a little wiggy with ACID. (You can also simply try lowering the latency for your soundcard; if you don't know where it is, it's usually in a soundcard's software control panel.)
