Subject:How to Synch ACID to Cubase SX

Ideally, I would like to Synch Acid 4 to Cubase sx, with Giga studio and Reason.

Is there a midi guru here? I can synch all of them except Acid.

I'll settle for Acid and SX though.

Thanks

You'll have to install something like the Virtual MIDI Router and use that utility to set up MIDI sync in ACID 4.0. (Use the NT/2000 version if you're using Windows XP.)

Note that ACID in just about any case likes to be the master in a MIDI sync situation.

Is there a way to make Acid the slave? I'm wondering if I would be better off using REASON as the source for the drum beats.

I'm not sure, but If I recall correctly, for some reason, (in version 3 anyway), it seemed that out off all the software packages, Acid was the only one that didn't like to play (pun) that well with the others and I'm wondering if that has changed in 4.0b. In other words, I remember that when Acid was the master (or slave) it used to somehow lock the midi ports in that none of the other programs could work with Acid open.

It's such a powerful tool but by todays standards it is pretty much moot if it can not synch with Cubase SX/Nuendo, reason, gigastudio.

At the very least, I hope that they are working on a plug-in version perhaps VST.

Thanks and please let me know if there is a way to slave the device.

retro--Midi routing is a joke, avoid at all costs. The only way to go sync-wise is ReWire, which everyone else in the world has EXCEPT SOFO. A firestorm of pressure has been brought to bear on them to implement ReWire in the next numerical milestone, 5.0. and indications are they will--if, in fact, there ever IS a 5.0. The company is currently aggressively attempting to sell off its digital desktop division so R&D is at a virtual standstill. Don't hold your breath.

or you can apply some dj technics (techniques) like matching acid's tempo to reason and starting acid on beat while recording the output into cubase. sort of like mixing turntables.

thats what i do.

retrobeats: ACID can be triggered via MTC, but that's about it for slaving.

Ken: Sync'ing with Cubase, Reason, et. al. is really all a subjective issue, IMHO. Some people work that way and some people don't. I happen to fall in the latter. Please don't go around saying ACID sucks just because it doesn't do ReWire and claim it as gospel. That's a tad pathetic. It's like saying you can't create music otherwise and be ingenious enough to work around it. What would you do if there was no such thing as ReWire, for example?

Nothing matches working with hardware. Then again, that's my opinion too.

FWIW, ReWire probably will make it into 5.0, if that actually matters to anyone. I've said it many times: Propellerhead is eager to get ReWire into ACID. Want your voice to be heard? Fill out the product suggestion form.
