I would like to know how to quickly find the size of a piece of file I have selected. All megabytes seem to be for the whole file and not the piece I have selected. |

Well, you could Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-E to paste to a new file, then check properties on that new file. It doesn't take long to Paste, but you will have the extra steps including saying "No" to saving when closing the new window. |

Hi Geoff, Their are occasions when I want to collect several files to burn to CD and I know their size but not their length. Also I sometimes want to take a certain amount of MB's out of the middle of a file or string of songs in CD Architect and it would be very easy if the selection would tell me how big it is. When I look at properties the program tells me how big the whole file is... Thanks for your curiosity. |

Normally "size" would refer to MB and "length" would refer to minutes. Do you mean you know the length but not the size? Sound Forge will always tell you the length of the whole file and any selection you make. For that matter, if you're making audio CDs then it seems to me like the length would be the more critical concern since you can fit 74 or 79 minutes on a disc. CD Architect will show you the length of each song and the total time of the songs on it's timeline. You can also trim/cut files there as well and see the resulting total length and song lengths immediately. |

For audio being burned to CD you can make these estimates. 1 Minute= 10 megs Therefore there is 60seconds/10 Meg = 6 Seconds/1 Meg or if you rather get down to the 1 second time frame. 1 second=200K |

It has been said that size doesn't matter but when I am going to make a continuous music mix I just create a folder and rip tracks into it until I have close to 650MB. That way I don't have to add up the minutes of each track. After crossfading in CD-Arch, I can sometimes add an additional track. I realize the the original poster is doing something different but this I how use file size. Steve |
